Bypassing the ACV
I've searched... I actually have just a simple question.
I'm thinking of bypassing the ACV just to pass emissions. First of all, is there an easy way to test the ACV? I mean, if I just put my finger on the end of the hose, how much air should I feel pushing against it at 800 rpms?
Anywho, the main question here is, if I bypass the ACV by running a hose straight from the AP to the cat, will there be any consequences due to the fact that I my ACV will not be working? I might actually have to drive it about 40 miles like that, would that be ok?

I would think that BYPASSING the ACV would be the same as blocking off, only different. If you follow. It will affect the way the car runs because there are vaccum lines which run off it. If you are going to bypass it I would think that you would have to block off the vaccum lines which are affected by it.

I had an 83 a few years back, and it wouldn't pass, I took it to RP in Margate FL, the acv was not working and I beleive he bypassed it.
Then it still wouldn't pass, he put a new cat on, and that combination passed.
I cut the belt to the air pump afterwards.
I guess you could connect the bypass just before you get there, and disconect after.
I think it would burn your cat if left connected.

Also, I removed the cat and fab'd a replacment pipe shortly afterwards, the cat would become clogged without air to burn the unburned fuel and "oil". I could still bolt the cat back on for emissions.
RP also put a blockoff plate where the acv was, I don't know if thats absolutely necc.?
rxdoctor, I don't beleive riofrio or I, meant by by passing the acv that you would connect a rubber hose directly to the cat, the long metal tube with the check valve in it is much easier to connect to.
Any one know why Racing Beat uses steel blockoff plates instead of aluminium?
