Buying Tips for 85 GS

Hi guys, this is my first post here...forgive me if I have missed a source for this info on the site, it is so huge. If there is an easy source for all this info, would you mind pasting a link?

I am looking seriously at buying a 1985 GS for a engine/tranny/rear end swap into my MG Midget.

The owner of the car says that it runs decent once started but it doesn't idle too well. He says that he thinks it runs strong and believes it has good compression. He thinks that it also has an exhaust system of some sort...

I have never bought an rx-7 before, and would appreciate any advice that you all can throw my way as to what to watch out for when I take a look at this car. What procedures should I go through to make sure that it is a sound car?

Also, he is asking $650usd for the car because he is going to have to transfer the title into his name before he can sign it over to me. He was going to sell it to me for $550, but the title and sales tax will run about a hundred bucks. Is it safe to say that this is a relatively fair price?

Thanks for all the help.

Josh

If it is a GSL, Its got rear discs and LSD. And 550 bucks for a running car in general is a good deal, especially for a running GSL. How many miles? Check oil and coolant, try to get a compression check. But it seem to me like a good deal.
