Burning alot of gas!!!!

Hey all, I got a question for you!!!! How much gas are you guys useing ? I got a 84 gsl with 75,000km org. motor and the car is in mint shape all around. The car idles like a champ when you just sitting there you cant even tell the car is running.

But the other day i put $40cdn in the tank which filled it and i only got like 258kms out of it!!!! wtf??? Like i dont think my gas gauge is working right because i doesnt seem to move right for the amount of gas thats in it. but thats all the gas she would take.

If this is the case what can i do to get better gas milage??? My 2nd gen does way better and its modded!! The the first gen is bone stock!! I was think about puting a bigger carb on her because in 2nd gear she will run out of gas in i try to rev it too like 6-6500!! But if that gas is like this i wouldnt want to see what a bigger carb would be like.

Yesterday i was driving home after after picking my friend up from the army base and the car started to shake and i was like what the **** it can be out of gas and then i tryed to take off from the light and it staled. i got it started and drove her into the gas station and put $10 in her and the shake stopped and drove home fine!!

What can i do to fix this problem ?

gas?

Change your gas filter and gut or remove the catalytic converter. Your car should rev higher in 2nd gear.Over the years I have owned no fewer than 10 1st generation RX-7s and removed or had all the cats gutted and believe me the performance shows a marked improvement.
There are gas filters [wee ones] located at the banjo bolt going into the carburetor, clean them[2] as well.
I think the main inline gas filter located near the rear mounted electric fuel pump on your car is probably your problem but I recommended the above so you will have most the bases covered.

Yeah, the gas mileage in a first gen isnt the best...By far. Although, it sounds like you have some fuel delivery problems as well if its having trouble revving like that. Replace the ful filter for a cheap easy start, its good maintenece anyway. Take it from there after you see what its doing.

I dont know why everyone is having this huge gas mileage problem. I get an average of 22mpg and I dont really granny it around either. granted, alot of it is highway but still. Mine is street ported with emissions removed, RB SP exhaust, ebay muffler. I also have dlidfis, but that only increased my mileage by 1 or 2.

I get about 20 or so with not-so-conservative driving, mostly highway tho.

Well, the only time I drove my car any real distance, I went through a half a tank in 19 miles

There were horrible details to that, though

What about working an EFI system onto a 12a... I know FI generally yeilds better fuel mileage than a carb will.

hmm...I have a stock engine and carb om my 83. I have headers and a coffee can muffler, and the converter had been knocked around a bit, and I get around 25-26 mpg. I drive 25 miles to my college and it usually takes 2 gallons round trip.
