Why did you undo the brake line from the caliper?
Anyway, you need to bleed the brakes. First make sure the master cylinder is full of fluid. You then attach some hose to the bleed nipple on the caliper and submerge the other end in a jar of clean brake fluid. Bleeding is done by opening the nipple about a 1/4 of a turn, having someone in the car press the pedal down, closing the nipple and releasing the pedal. You need to repeat this process until all the old fluid (which will be dark in colour) is expelled and there are no air bubbles left in the fluid coming out of the nipple.
You generally start from the corner furthest away from the master cylinder and work your way up.
Speed bleeders also make this a lot easier as they incorporate a one-way valve which allows you pump the pedal without have to continually open and close the nipple.
