Question Brake Noise

Hi

Since I bought my old '82 auto RX7, with disc brakes, there is this noise that comes from the rear drivers side brake. It's a sort of clicking noise and when I took it took a mazda specialist they said that it was from some kind of clip in the brakes and that it would costs a lot to be fixed. They did say however that it really isn't a problem. It has scared a few of my passengers though.

Can anyone tell me what it is and possibly what can be done about it?

Thanks in advance.
Glenn

Wow, that sounds pretty weird. Loud enough to scare passengers? That doesn't sound like a minor brake issue to me. Need more information though.

Under what conditions does it happen?
How long ago were the brake pads replaced?
What type of RX is it (GS, GSL, GSL SE)?
Disc brakes or drums?
And clicking noise, just one click or is it a series of clicks?
Does it happen only when turning corners and braking, or at anytime at all?

Welcome to the board too. Just a little more info and I'm sure you'll get the help you need here......

It's because someone installed the pads without the little spring clips that keep them from rattling. The only reason it'll cost to ifx it is bacause it'll take the shop about an hour worth of labour to do it. Mine do this as well, I've used some silicon squeel stop on the backs of the pads and it's gotten a bit better. That said it really isn't a problem just anoying. Also if you have a jack and stands and a few tools you can put the springs in yourself which will make it a very cheap fix, unless the springs are super expensive which they shouldn't be.

P.S. If you get a mechanic to fix them you might as well throw in a new set of pads while they do it.

Shouldn't be, but I think they're like $30 at most auto parts stores. No ****.

When my left axle seal was leaking on the hilux diff, the s2 disc brakes use to squeel on a slow left turn.

since fixed the axle leak they don't squeel anymore, the pad was covered in oil when it came out.

i prefer not to use the anti rattle springs, i use just dow corning silastic on the back of the pad and it works great- no noises
