Yeah, I've got the Haynes and the Chilton's (I have it in soft cover).

Neither one is all that great.. for some procedures, it helps to know how to do the procedure before reading the instructions.. that way, you can understand the instructions!..

I have the Chiltons - Sux
I have the Haynes - Better (Not too bad for the SA's)

I have the 1985 Factory Workshop Manual
NO CONTEST, Hands down by Far the best available.

Plenty of Good Pictures, very detailed, detailed wiring diagrams, etc. You could Rebuild your engine with one no problem.

HINT: If you get a factory one, make sure it is an ORIGINAL one, not a Mazdatrix or Racing Beat Copy, because they are literally photocopies of the original, and the pictures look like a dark, bad fax.

Here is a link to the 1982 Mitchell Repair Manual CD.
You can download it and it seems to be good to have.
The 82 and 83 are almost the same.

Haynes ain't bad, but I agree it is much better for SA's than any other first gen. I haven't gotton a factory manual yet but I plan to.

The Racing Beat or Mazdatrix are not photocopies. They are the best that is available. The problem is the plates used to run these manuals are worn bad and mazda has discontinued the book and will not be upgrading / casting the print plates. The only way you'll find a better copy is if someone has an old original prior to 1999 print that they are willing to part with. BTW, The photos are not great, however, the printed material is perfect. (including wiring diagrams)
