Blue smoke after I let of throttle
sometimes my car will give off lots of blue smoke after I let off the throttle after a redline run. Other times it will be fine, and no smoke will be pressent. Are my seals bad? Also when I start my car, especially after a few days of it sitting, it smokes. Why does the oil pool up like that? Is there someting I can add to my engine for my seals?
I still have lots of power, it's just a little embarassing when all the cars behind me switch lanes because of the cloud of blue smoke.
It does happen after the engine is warm also. I also recently did the atf treatment. Someone mentioned that the atf treatment could have cleaned up carbon, and this carbon could have been sealing my worn seals. Could this be possible?

The blue smoke is an excess amount of oil in the chambers due to leaking oil seals. My 85 does the exact same thing. I just live with it.
It will show no signs of lost compression, the side and apex seals do the compressing. The only fix is a complete rebuild with new seals. Might as well get it ported while you got it out.

The only other thing I could suggest is make sure the metering oil pump is properly adjusted. Doubt that is it but it could cause a slight blue smoke if too much oil is injected into the mixture. You may just need to live with it or fork out lots o cash to fix (and it is probably not really worth it).

i've heard that rotary engines will always burn a little oil... so chek your oil level every week or so... but as for the blue--check your timing? at redline your timing is very important and check your spark plugs and spark plug wires--once i was running only on 3 spark plugs because one of my wires somehow messed itself up (don't ask, i dunno either)...
oil pools up cuz of the shape of the rotor housing... it's an ellipse and oil will settle at the bottom if you don't run it in a while
hope that helps

As someone already said the blue smoke on deceleration as well as at startup are sure signs of oil control seal deteriation. The reason it smokes alot when letting off the throttle at high rpm is because the sudden high vacuum draws the oil past the seals and into the combustion chamber. Unfortuneatly there's not much you can do about it short of a rebuild and it will slowly get worse so make sure you keep on eye on the oil level. Before I rebuilt my motor it was smoking like crazy and I swear I was almost using more oil than fuel. Luckily the enforcement of smog laws over here is pretty much non-existant.

My rebuild puffs smoke some when shifting, how ever, I'm sure the sideplates could use a lapping, but as with many projects, I don't have lots of extra money readily handy. It really would release a cloud at 110+mph with the throttle shut, LOL! I remember taking the o-rings off the rotors back in '97, a cross sectional view would make them a half-moon shape, so obviously oil got by easyly. But lets just say, whuppy doo, rotaries are suppose to burn oil and cough out smoke to bother others on the road! LOL!
