Blown rear Tokico blue...help!
Blown rear Tokico blue...help!
Has anyone had any experience with Tokico shocks blowing out due to cold? The reason I ask is this: Today I pulled the car outta the garage after winter to get it towed to the mechanics. It's parked on the street right now. I just noticed that the left rear fender is a LOT lower than it was before. Probably a good inch or two lower than the right. The car has RB springs and Tokico blues, but that's it for suspension mods. I don't see how only one spring would settle after the rest for having them on there for more than 6 months. What's Tokico like to deal with for warranty? The guy I talked to there just now, Ray, said that I have to contact the place I bought it from. The "place" I bought it from is E-Bay, from a reputable seller (who I HAVEN'T contacted yet, I'm just testing the waters here). If the seller ***** off, am I too, in turn, fucked? Ray at Tokico said that sometimes they'll step in if the shop has gone out of business or whatever, but he wasn't as helpful or reassuring as I would have liked. Especially since I've heard nothing but great things about Tokico, and I love the shocks too. Any insight would be great!

PS. I actually like the level that the left rear sits at now. The RB springs on the car didn't settle quite as much in the rear as they did in the front. Optimally, I wish the car sat at that height on both rear tires and that the shock isn't blown.

Ride height is set by spring length and compression rate, not by shocks. In fact, if you remove your rear shocks entirely, it will only lower the rear ride height by about 1/8" - 1/4", at MOST, and that's only if you have gas charged shocks - not all are. Tokico Blues are gas charged to the best of my knowledge.
What this means is that the car may have some other suspension issue that's causing the lowered ride height on only one corner. You'll really need to jack it up on stands to be able to find out what it is, but I wouldn't blame the Tokico Blues until you get under there and inspect it. HTH,

Tokico has a lifetime replacement warranty on their shocks and struts.. provided you have the original sales receipt.
It would be best, just to be sure, to raise the rear of your car up then unbolt the shocks... then fully compress by hand. Do this several times to both shocks, noting how hard it takes to compress and the rate at which they decompress to determine the state of your shocks.
I was driving my 7 for a few months with a blown right rear shock
Now my ReX has Illuminas on the rears ...
so if anyone needs a single rear Tokico HP shock I have one up for grabs.
Tokico High Performance shocks & struts (HP) or 'Blues' as they are called today used to be bronze in color back in the day BTW
