Talking blowing the relay everytime....(wont start,No power)

well here is a picture http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y74...oads/broke.jpg This is how it goes. you turn the car on and its got power, Turn the key and pop, that relay goes ape....I tried resetting it like a million times by disconnecting the battery and no luck...The book calls it the constant power relay, and the voltage regulator. i just wanna know the right name. More than likely im going to hit the junkyard and grab one to see if it will fix it....Im pretty shure its this..Its done it one more time before this but all i did was reset it with the battery trick.
also i replaced the starter, and i check all my work twice today to make shure i didnt leave anything loose so im really shure i didnt mess that up. Thanks and Dam i love these frickin cars!

does it click when the car comes on? i'd say just replace it, i dont know if you could just wire up a universal relay for that or not.. junkyard sounds like a good option. you have to wonder why it blew in the first place though, perhaps you had a voltage spike or bad ground

i dont think thats a regulator, seeing as how it says relay on it. (and you cannot confuse the two electrically)...

personally, i dont know HTH you could blow a relay... yeah, any old relay will work, as long as you make sure the coil is twelve volt, and you use the correct set of contacts for your application (common and "Normally open": NO or "normally closed": NC)

now disconnecting the battery wont do squat on your rx-7.. except clear your radio stations. what do you mean by the rely goes "ape" on you? does it chatter or buzz? it could be a discharged battery or a poor connection to the coil (the two pin block i assume)

the relay clicks, like it closes or opens....im not shure if its a normally open or closed relay. but yea im tracking down grounds and checking them...ive seen two other cars do this, infact one was giving to me and my friends for free because of it...
On another note, disconnecting the battery takes power away from the realy, thus letting it discharge and reset. or go back to its normal position..thats why i disconnect the battery.
Never mind going ape...it clicks to an open postition or shut either one. anyways.
im gonna try some stuff today. ill keep in mind wireing in another one. thanks.

Have an assistant tap it with the handle of a screwdriver as you try and start the car.

The contacts internally could be oxidized or the coil could be going out. The vibration might jiggle a loose connection internally.

What year is your car? Only 1979 and 1980 models had externally mounted Voltage regulators.

Easy fix is to eliminate that stocker completely and run new wires/fog lights relay/push button switch.
