Blowing Main Fusible Link/Fuse

Hey guys, wondering if you can help me out on this one!
Today I put my battery back in the car as well as my intake and alternator after
storage and rebuilding and accidentally put the battery terminals flipped.
The result is a melted main fusible link. To fix this i got some of these:

And used regular fuses. I determined the required fuses using this diagram:
Mazda Fusible Links
to decode the 0.3 sq and 1.25 sq in the body electrical system manual (see page 8 of the pdf on foxed). With the new fuses (2 20A and 1 40A -> the store didnt have any 45) in place I attached the battery again in the correct orientation and the main fuse immediately popped again! This was without having attempted turning the car on or anything. So I plan on spending a good amount of time trying to figure out what the issue is using a voltmeter but if anyone has had this issue or can give me an idea of where to start it would be much appreciated!

Issue was fixed. Turns out I melted the bridge in the alternator so in goes a new one! Amdins please delete thread or whatever :P
