Block Identification numbers...
Block Identification numbers...
Hey I have a 84 GSL-SE and am doing a TII swap. The guy that is doing my work offered to take it in a trade. Just a quick question. Is there any identification number tied to my specific block that would pair it up with the car.
In other words if I get rid of my engine and later down the road I swap a different FB 13b will I be wishing that I still had my block due to the fact that numbers on the car and numbers on the engine will not match up?
Thanks for the help.

The vin number and engine number are independent. Mazda does not keep a record.
Some dealers enter both numbers on the sales bill and service book.
Some traffic authorities also use both numbers on their registration records.
However there is no benefit in having the original engine rather than a replacement, except in a few old classic sports cars where the chassis and engine numbers were the same.

To tell you the truth I am thinking of holding on to it. Don't know if I will ever use it again but if I need it then it will be at my disposal. Does anyone know if any of the numbers signify date and month produced?
