Black trim is fading

Hey

Can the trim around the window be painted? Will it hold up? Or should I look for better trim? Sounds like I am looking for a new woman....

If it can be painted, what paint did you use...

Thanks

Jim

I painted mine flat black. I took it off and did it the right way.... sanded off the remaining paint and then painted it. Much better.

I had some body and paint work done on the Mound and they offered to paint the trim for free, but not guarantee it. It made the car look real good, almost new. For about a year. Now it's all fading again, chrome showing etc.

Granted it was free, so maybe they didn't do it right. I plan to get done again someday, with the rest of the car.

Right on-

Get it powder coated. Looks good and it wont fade or peel.

Question how do you do it?

Question. How do you go about removing the metal trim around the front window so that it can be painted? Thanks

First you go to your Mazda dealer and buy some of the clips that are behind the molding holding it on. Gaurenteed you will break a few from old age, then get something with a flat wide edge but thin and pry pulling forward. You may have to twist a little too. It might be wise to put a cloth behind your pry so you do not damage the paint around the edge. As for paint, sand it till you get no flakes and all is smooth. All the paint does not necessarily have to be off, as long as it wont flake off. Then get a good metal paint such as tremclad and do many even coats allowing good dry time. Powder coating is great but you need a spare oven and you have to find the stuff to boot. I hope this helps good luck!
