In a bit of a pickle...

Alright, I know this is more of a general question but I feel more comfortable here. Anyway, I finally decided to change out the twenty year old rear speakers but I'm having some trouble. Short story even shorter, the new speakers don't work when I put the panelling back on. None of the wires are exposed but it seems like it's shorting out whenever I push the speakers in a bit. I'm hoping for a quick fix but I don't mind cutting up the panels if I have the proper tools on hand and I can replace them for a decent price if the need arises. So...yeah, any help will be greatly appreciated.

are you using insulated terminals on your wire where it connects to your speakers? If not they may be touching the body around the speaker when you mount them in place, causing them to short out. If you dont have the insulated ones, you can always cover the terminals with electrical tape after they are connected to the speaker.

Did they work before you put them into the body panel, did you test run them.
