I was thinking of making a bike rack for my FB. IF you have a moonroof model(which most have) Get another one from a junk yard and bolt a rack into that. Therefore, you don't damage your orginal, you can always go back to the one you have and not worry about damaging your cars orginal equipment. The only issue I see, you can't have it open while you drive with your bike on, so its down and snug. Thats my idea I am going to do for next summer. Also, I can use it to bolt my windsurfer equipment on too. ....for short distance for that though.

Thanks for the responses. Even the one about getting a double decker rice wing.
Thule makes one that comes with clips to attach to glass, but they recomend a roof mount for 1st gens. I'm going to try to check it out this weekend. It just seems to me it will be easier and quicker to put on and take off a hatch mount, not to mention how much easier I think it would be to put the bike on a hatch mount than a roof mount.

Putting the bike itself on and off the Thule roof rack is VERY easy, especially on a low car like the RX-7. On the specific rack I have, you just hook the front forks over a round bolt and snap down the cover, and the rear tire sits in a tray with a ski-boot type buckle that is very simple to put on and off. It takes about 30 seconds.
The racks themselves have four "feet," which attach to the rain gutters on an RX-7. Each of the feet has a tightening lever. Once you get the bars assembled and the bike rack on it, you can just loosen the 4 screws to take the whole assembly off and put it back on. It is not as easy as putting the bike on, but not too bad especially if you leave the whole thing assembled.
