biggest tire on 16 panasport rims

i have a 79 and want to get some tires. This is what i was thinking 215/40/16 in front 225/40/16 in rear?

or is it better and safer to go 205/40/16 in front and 215/40/16 in rear?

I think you'll be struggling to get 215's on the front as there's barely any clearance between the tyre and the strut. Even with 205/15's I only had a few mm.

You should be able to fit 225's on the back pretty easy but the optimal size depends on how wide the rim is.

205/40/16 and 215/40/16 will work great with 7" wide rims and stock offset.

you mean stock backspacing, remember offset changes with rim width, just to be a stickler hehe

yeah i put some 225/40/16 in the rear and 215/40/16 in the front and the rears are rubbing on the fender when i hit a bump. So i m going to move the 215s to the rear and get a pair of 205s in the front. The 215s in the front rub the fender when i make a deep u turn. I m just wanted to know what u guys have experienced. Oh i m selling the 225/40/16 in the rear. they are kumho supra 712 z rated. Make an offer. Just two available.

An other option would be to have the lip on the guard rolled in if that's where it's rubbing. Just had this done on the Cosmo and it works great.
