The Big Question.... Fuelie or no-fuelie

Hey all,

I've got an 83' with a very agressively ported (but not bridge) 12a on which I'm currently running a Nikki with uprated jets and accelerator pump; but it's time I upgraded. I don't want to go the webber/dellorto/mukuni/etc route; as I don't want to deal with the constant fiddling so I've got it down to two choices:

Sterling or Megasquirt.

As I see it the benefits of the MS are: wicked tunability, wicked power potential, easy starting, better fuel economy and the sheer gadgetude of it. The disadvantages are CO$T, difficulty (agrovation) of install, need for an uprated fuel system, need for a custom manifold.

The sterling on the other hand, is way cheaper, way easier to install but I question if I'll see the performance gain I'm hopping for. I've been told by the local Rotary expert that my motor should be good for over 160hp if I can get enough air into it; will the sterling do this while still maintaining decend idle quality, fuel economy and easy starting?

I would appreicate your collective input, particularly from those of you who have one or the other (Sterling or Megasquirt).

Thanks,
-Kwe

I have a MegaSquirt but haven't run it yet because I have another project that needs to get done first.

160 HP with the porting you describe sounds a bit conservative to me, but i'll leave that alone.

anyway, you're probably better off just PM'ing Sterling or Rx7Carl and having a talk with them. you can share your goals and concerns. i'm pretty confident that you'll get honest answers.

personally, i'd get something with a better flowing manifold and go with the fuel injection, but you listed just as many minuses as you did pluses, so ultimately only you can decide what you are and are not willing to do for better flow.
