best way to get to or around 200hp mark?

well i've been mixed up onto how to get there, the car is a 81 12a motor and while browsing the forums i keep getting different directions like going turbo, or porting, or supercharging or even a 2nd gen swap sometimes, just wanna know what most would do to get to around 200hp.

easy will depend on your experience and mechanical ability. hell, the easiest thing to do would be to take it to a rotary shop and say "i want a TII swap" lol.

nah, but this has been brought up 1.2million times. hit up a search for your exact question.

my vote = turbo.

There are several ways to go

12a turbo, 13b turbo, 13b na

I say the best one for being a daily driver IMO would be a 13b 6port.
Easy motor to come by, rebuild with large street port, Good Dellorto/Weber carb, header, exhaust, etc. That would put you close to 200hp but might not get you thru emissions testing. This is basically the setup I am running but I am running the stock GSL-SE ECU with S4 intakes and TB. I was told this setup in my car should have me around the 200hp mark but I have never dyno'ed it.

Now the cheapest way would probally be to rebuild your 12a with a large SP or a PP. Then run a s4 turbo and a turbo prepped Nikki carb.

The best power would be a S4 TII motor but you would need the complete motor with all bolt on's, wiring harness, ECU, MAF, Boost Sensor, throttle cable, coils, and a few other thing I can't think of right now.
Or go TII motor and then run a standalone computer or go megasquirt.
But then you will need either a 13b tranny or a TII tranny as the 12a trans won't last long. If you go TII trans you will have to get a driveshaft made.

All the above will cost some money unless you found these parts in a wrecked car that you could pick up cheap.

Does your car run now? Any mods done to it? Model s,gs,gsl?
Your location?

$1500 is not bad but then figure another $1200 amount to rebuild it, if it is a S5 motor then you have to have a front cover made ($150-$200), and you need to buy a gslse oil pan ($30-$60), then have a drive shaft made (who knows). but after all that you would have a very nice car with a good bit of power.

302/T5 and grannys subframe.

Not what you wanted to hear but its true:

'79-'85 RX-7 / Ford V-8 Basic Kit.....................$119!...reg $150.
302/T5 from a JY or a pullout... few hundred at most. $1K would get you a 302 and a cam, maybe heads for it... but hey if you want hard and fast prices from ebay not even looking for a dea':
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MUSTA...QQcmdZViewItem
1990 mustang GT motor, 230 hp ish, tons of torque, better gas mileage, EFI.. $450.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Musta...QQcmdZViewItem
T-5 with clutch, PP, shifter, all the good ****, currently $400 and rarely goes for signifigantly more at all.

Oh, and of course youll have to plug in all the vacuum lines and wire stuff, and get a new DS cut, but thast.. uh, it.

Flame away

well i think it's all in the dollars, more coin nets greater figures, so if money is no prob go 20b, or work the **** outa the 12a go efi and re build it to last, but that will cost( about $3500au here- drive in carb /drive out efi) $50us lmfao) but ther there's a 13b turbo with a box from jap for that much, hmmm, or go efi with a little shot of gas for arround $2000 but then need to re build more often. My first rebuild is now 3 years old and i still drive her every day ( now has low comp in rear rotor ) the kit was $450, a few tools $185, manual was a free download since lost but i have a full copy for an 85 12a/13b and that was a total of $600 odd buks for a 12a re build @ 150 hp with a funky bridge port thats huge but cant you weld these up and go pp? anyway have a nice day guys and gals

yea i am wondering too i have been wondering about a v8 but eh, i kinda wanted to stay rotary but its a big toss up right now, most likly i'll stay with a motor in the first gen, either the 12a or a 13b goes in for cheap and port it but i'd like more info on the v8 swap.

http://www.torquecentral.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11 would be a good place to look if youre curious, as well as the 'other engine swaps' section in the 'club here, too.
