What he said. There are some other options for autocrossing, but the Hoosier dominates there as well. Bang for your buck wise, the Kumho v700 is a good tire, but the Hoosiers are the best.

Hoosier. No question. Expensive but superior to everything else. Worth 1.5 - 2 seconds a lap on most tracks.

Hoosier DOT-R has the most stick, highest price, lightest weight, and shortest life of all the DOT-R's that will fit a 1st gen.

Michelin makes a very sticky and light DOT-R but they're only in BIG sizes and extremely $

Kumho Ecsta, Toyo RA-1 or Yokohoma A032R are better bang for the buck. Cost lest, last longer, but less stick. I'd start with those until you really know how to drive and want and can use the extra stick of the Hoosier.

Michelin MXF sports are a pretty good tyre... tho they usual are for larger rims, 16" and up....

Toyo Proxies RA-1 last longer than Hoosiers, but still with good stick.

How deep are your pockets?

I definitely like the Victoracers better than the Ecsta V700s... Have to see what this new compound is like they're coming out with...

Thanks for the response, Drivefast7 makes a good point my skill level isn't top notch yet. Im leaning towards the Toyos. Any good sources besides Tire Rack?

Check out www.tiretrends.com they're based out of Vancouver so their prices tend to be a little cheaper than their US counterparts. I'm not sure what the duty would be across the border though. Really good customer service and inexpensive shipping though.

I am looking at Toyo RA-1 as well, though I'm not sure if I'm ready to make the leap to a R compound tire. Maybe I should do another season on street tires?

I use the yokohama r100's and I love them. They are pretty cheap too. I have not ran any of the other tires, but I would like to.

ok, track tires shoudl at least be R-compounds...

KD's are good street tires, but not much compared to a real track tire..

I run V700s.. Sure I give up a little bit of time, but it saves me a ton of $$ due to their longevity over the A3So3s I used to run...

I am saying the Kd's, for there all around sutability for almost all track situations.
Seeing as the person wasking about tires for track days, and not race days, I am looking at all around usefulness.

They dont stick quite like r compounds, but they last forever, and as stated above they are great in the rain, and good to drive home and to work on.

I used to drive my car 1-2 hours to the track each way on full treaded Yokohoma A032R's with lightweight thin shelled Diamond Racing Wheels. Just take them off when u get home & use Formula V traction treatment to keep em as soft as possible.

There simply wasn't room in the 1st gem for a set of tires with 2 suitcases and cupholder in there
