UK spec 84-85 is my favourite

115hp 12A with SA style exhaust reactor and no cats and no rats nest

GSL-SE style suspension + brakes

All cars came fully loaded with the electric gizmo's (no aircon, no cruise , no leather tho' )

and Rear seats too (what a joke they are)

Mike

I'll second that. I'll always keep my 83 because it's lighter, prettier and more comfy (the velor seats sit a little lower for my 6'2"), and it scoots around corners better than the 85. The 85 seems better because of the luxury features and the LSD, but .....

If I remember right it came to almost 100lb.

hehe, I weigh 116lbs myself (at 5'11''!!!)

I get to keep my interior. I'm my own racing weight reduction.

79 RX7 Widebody... S model.
4-port 13B from a 76 Cosmo
LSD and Rear discs from a 82 GSL
Racing Beat rear springs, KYB GR-2 rear shocks

There.... THAT, my friends... is my favorite RX7. And it's an SA22C, at that.

Manufacturers typically start building the car in the autumn before the car's stated model year. If they wait 'till spring, it's usually listed as a half-year (e.g. the Hyundai Tiburon was sold as a 2002 1/2, not a 2002, as it came out in March of '02)

The only real differences between the '84 and '85 are that early '84s needed recalls for a few niggling details, and the '85s were flawless. Mazda was already designing the FC so they didn't bother changing the FB style SE when it was only out for 2 years.

I like the interior/exterior of sa's. Hook one up with some more power, stronger tranny and rear then your set!

you all have to agree there all bad ***!
but hands down the 85 is more stylish in and out.
its better for every day driving and street racing.
if your going for a drag car then a 79 with a se rear end is the way to go.

I have no basis for comparison. I love my 81 GSL to death. Calling it a mere GSL is an understatement cuz the GSL badges were removed and replaced with Turbo ones.

GSL-SE like no other.... when combine with a turbo 2 rotors, weber side draft intake, twin custom turbo... and other hp gainer mod then GSL-SE comes out at the top... didn't wanna say anything for a long time.... but now just gotta put it like that...

The 12AT engined car gets you the same topend power as a GSL-SE[ about 136bhp] but it lacks bottom end torque. With a good launch you can get low 15second 1/4s due to its lower weight and better gearbox. Turbo lag is not noticeable. I have driven 2 stock models, surprisingly neither had RX-7 badges on the side.

Another good model is the Australian series 3 which came with the 'mild port' motor and se rear end including lsd in late models.

I love my 83GS (and the 85GSL is OK), and I'm looking for a nice SE, BUT the coolest has to be the SA.

defprun- the Savannah 12AT engine put out 162 JIS hp which is about 138 SAE hp as against the 101 hp of the Us spec or 115hp for the European/ Australian specs with the bigger ports

MikeLMR- your response interests me. both the European and Australian 12A engines put out 115-117 bhp. the Australian s2 and s3 versions had cats and rats nests with bigger ports. Did the UK version have the same port timings?

I am pretty sure the 12AT (GT-X) had 165 HP.
