Your fuel pump does not come on until you start cranking the engine.

As far as the electrical issue. You either have corrosion on the battery posts or cables, or your battery is failing.

Clean cables first. If that does nothing then have battery tested.

clean and tighten the cable connection to the battery. if u can twist the cable on the battery post, they're not tight enough.

I would go ahead and replace the battery cables. They do tend to corrode over time, so this is just good preventive maintenance. Standard cables will do fine, don't make the same mistake Mazda did and use aluminum. I used the heaviest gauge cables that Autozone carried, just grab the proper length and go to it. Chances are this simple upgrade will eliminate all kinds of small issues down the road.

If you still have problems after that with keeping her running, then check for spark at the plugs. If the trailing spark isn't sparking, then the fuel pump won't run.

Good luck.

I just replaced my cables with ones from Tractor Supply. I used a 48" 1 gauge for the negative cable and a 2 gauge 48" for the positive. I also used an additional 18" positive cable to go from the positive terminal to the second gen fuse block and a 24" negative cable to connect the shock tower where the factory connection goes. Overall it solved all my battery problems. I had originally just put new battery terminal on the factory cables but they where very intermittent.
