Bad oil leak

I have a pretty bad oil leak in the engine bay on the passenger side. The oil leaks onto the exhaust manifold and causes smoke when i drive. What is going on, where is it coming from, what to do? Any help i can get with this would be great.

Check your mop and mop lines. If you can't find the leak, degrease the engine bay, it will show up easier.

its most likely a mop/omp oil leak. in addition to trochoid's reply mop (metering oil pump, not the oil pump itself) or omp (oil metering pump) is what regulates the oil, that it gets from the oil pump, and sends the oil up these little tubes (2) into the carb for the oil to be combusted to keep the internals lubricated. the o-rings and gasket wears out over time and causes oil to leak. its worst location which is right over and near the exhaust manifold is where the oil drips down and gets burned and smokes and over time accumulates and smokes more and makes a smoke screen when you stop and go. if this is the case where its been a while for this oil leaking, degreasing the engine would be a challenge. not only does it get on the manifold but also the manifold's heat shield and the grease and oil slides down to the primary cat heat shield and probably more so there will still be some smoke. if you search the archives there i kind of did a write up on rebuilding my omp/mop. the thread name is "OMG OMP" good luck with your little project. when you finish you should degrease your engine to minimize the smoke unless you take everything off of the exhaust and steam clean it or clean it somehow. or let it burn up and crystalize. let us know how it goes and if you need more help just ask.

Yes, as already stated the place to check first would be the OMP. Take a look at the front, bottom, passenger's side of the engine. You will see two milky colored tubes coming out of the OMP that run up to the carb. Check around the bottom end of these tubes, that is where the OMP is. Good luck man, and welcome to the forum.

also when you are done rebuilding your omp try adding some lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. i dont think i can hurt the oil flow through the omp and omp lines. anybody who says otherwise please correct me. all help will be very much appreciated.
