Exclamation Bad Fuel Pump?

Okay I think that my fuel pump has gone bad after 8 years of not driving the '79 RX. It makes noise, but I don't think it sounds like its working correctly. I disconnected the hose that goes from the gas tank to the fuel filter and put the key in and turned it to start the fuel pump. It made noise, but no gas came out of the hose. Do you think I need a new fuel pump, or could i just need to fill up the tank more to prime it? The car sat for 8 years and when we started working on it, the guage read empty, so hopefully there was no bad gas in it. We put a few gallons in the tank, but nothing happened. The engine will turn over just fine, but its not getting gas. Could it be that the fuel pump just needs some more gas so that it can be primed or is it bad altogether?

PS I think the noise that it makes is a sort of clicking, but I'll double check it again tonight

Blow compress air into the line, to the fuel tank to get the sediment off of the pickup screen

Oops double post.
to determine if the pump is a fault, remove it and check your flow rate should move about a litre in 60 sec. you should also check your pressure, mind you if you flow rate is low your pressure should be aswell.
Have just gone through 3 of the things, wound up installing a new one.
Hope this helps. Sue
