back, and looking for a vacuum leak.
ok, i'm back here, after a long break, i've decided i'm gonna start working on my car again and try to get it running.
my problem i have now figured out is a vacuum leak, or several leaks.
around the carb base, was one spot, the altitude compensator thing on the carb was another, and i also have a failed shutter valve.
the car is an 83 gsl
rat's nest removed, and dlidfis installed, and carb rebuilt.
i think i'm gonna just go straight into this one, i'm gonna pull the intake off, clean everything up, and fix my shutter valve somehow, make the correct block off plates for the ACV and the air pump line, plug all the right vac ports, new intake gaskets, and i might need a new carb base, because when i took my carb off to rebuild it, the gasked stuck to the base, and i had to scrape it off, and a bunch of copper stuff that covered all the vacuum routing inside the base cracked off and came off, so that might go on the list now too.
anyways, any tips for intake removal, cleanup of parts, where to get gaskets, carb base, anything?
anything would be helpful to me, as i want to do this as right as possible, i work as a mechanic, so i have those kinds of skills and knowledge.
thanks,
Jon

2:20 pm intake is off. driveway full of antifreeze and water.
i stupidly forgot coolant passes thru intakes it's ok though. it's off.
i did notice that one of the coolant o rings was not there. the one on the front rotor. there was a bunch of white nasty stuff in that hole. i don't know what this means, but it didn't look right. and a little piece of the o ring was all that was left... i dunno.
gotta find a gasket set now. do you think napa carries them? i gotta make all the block off plates now the right way. it will be easier now that the intake is off.

The gaskets on the carb base plate, that black plastic thing, do not come off nor do you replace them. The gaskets in the carb kit that look like they fit there, toss them, they aren't used. You can buy 2 O-rings for the coolant ports and a roll of gasket paper and make your own gasket using the intake mani as a pattern.

thanks for the tips trochoid, and, i'll probably be needing a new carb base now then.
i'm gonna bring the intake to my dad's shop where i work and get it all cleaned up good.
