And I'm also running way too rich, which explains why my gas mileage is so far below par, my sparpk plugs so black (I'll try to post a pic), and still not passing emissions. The plugs are 2 or 3 months old. I don't know if the mixture is a cause, or a consequence of the crappy idle, or just a separate issue altogether. The main problem with my idle at this point is that once i hit the gas pedal, then it will hang high, at around 1100 or higher, but without surging. I'm thinking full tune-up, but I don't wanna risk fouling another set of new plugs so soon.

Longduck, if you can, please post a pic of the throttle body rods and where to lube them up. i understand what you describe and the concept and when i took the throttle body off, i made sure i lubed everything. perhaps i missed something.

The way to lube the TB rods is to remove the air piping, remove the TB and all the cruise and throttle cables, and then, with the TB off the car, turn it on it's side so that the butterfly valve rods are going up and down (either side up). Take some light oil and oil everywhere that the steel rods go through the aluminum TB housing. After about 10 minutes of it sitting on this end, turn it 180 degrees so that the TB rods are pointing up and down again, but in the opposite direction - lube this side and let them sit to soak in. Work the rods when you lube them so that the oil will be drawn down into the shaft runners.

This is all it takes to get the TB lubed up so that you won't have mechanical surging problems.

There are 3 rods that you'll need to look at; the Primary Butterfly, the Secondary Butterfly, and the 'Double-Throttle' (choke) Butterfly valves. HTH, (sorry, I don't have any pics on this)

well, to report back, i put on another BACV after i cleaned it and sealed it good. i also changed the solenoids. nothing changed. ran smoother but still horrid idle fluctuation. well, i then decided to change the throttle body. i am happy to report that all is well!!! the butterflies on the old TB were not closing all the way, most likely the source of my problem. the used TB i put on works perfect. hopefully it stays that way!

Patience wins out! Good job, keep that old TB around in case you need to rebuild it if more problems ensue.

Never hurts to have spare parts around to swap - sometimes the only way to accurately identify the root cause of a problem.
