Axle varification (pics)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone in the know could varify this axle for me. As far as I know it is from a 83 rx7, But since i'm not the one that actually pulled it i'm not 100% sure. My reason for wanting to know is because of the half year of the 83"s. It has been said that this particular year of 7 had two styles of axles in it, One being the "small" axle and the other being the "large" axle. I'm having doubts that this is the "small" axle because according to info posted here various different times the 80-83.5 axles have interchangeable parts.

Going on this info I had swapped a 82" pumpkin in my car but it was immediatly clear that it didn't fit right. It did bolt up however, But the inner race on the pumpkin did not fit (match) the outer race of the axle housing. This left only the housing bolts holding the gear set and pumpkin to the axle. Now if everything I'm saying is right, This means that a later 83.5-85 gearset and pumpkin will fit this axle housing right? Here are some pics of the axle in question, When I say axle I'm meaning axle half shafts, Not the complete axle assembly. Thanks for looking.

Quick check would be with a ruler. If it looks smaller than 1" it is early. If it looks bigger than 1" it is late. They are metric but this will give you a quick verification.

The axle shaft or the splines? The reason I ask is because if you look at the pics, Other axles that I've seen are milled farther down the shaft than the one that I posted.

If you look at the third pic I posted you can see what i'm talking about.
