axle tube diameters

Hey I am looking at putting a diffrent axle out of a first gen into my Rx-4.
I pulled an axle from a gsl and I noticed the axle tube is a smaller diameter than my stock axle from the 4. Does anyone know if the axle from a GSL-SE has bigger diameter axle tubes than a GSL?
I am going to switch the axle to leaf spring mounts and the mounts cup the axle and won't work with a GSL rear and it isn't big enough.

the 79-82 cars have small axles, 84-85 have the big axles. 83 is small axle, but big driveshaft flange.

i know the 79-83 cars use the same axle diameters as the R100/Rx2/Rx3, and the 84-85 is the same as the non turbo FC, and 94-2005 miata....
