21 here. I like the FB more than any other RX-7 gen. I can never get enough of the "fun little car".

I have an extra set of tailights that I want to convert to LED Tailights to see what they look like.

I used 128 superbright LED's, driven in pairs from my running lights. Each pair uses a 560ohm resistor to limit the current to about 17mA at 14V. There are good and bad points to how you wire it, use more energy thus heat, or low power and then they can dim when the battery voltage drops at all. Depending if you have a stereo or something hooked up as well makes part of the diff.
I used autocad to do the layout of the lights in a piece of plastic which is the same size (but a little thicker :( ) as the original center plastic plate between the lights. But it still looks stock for anyone lookin at it while driving, it sticks out about 1/8" from the lights on either side.
The plastic is fairly opaque, so when the LED's are off you can't see anything at all. The holes are drilled from the back, just close enough to be seen through it. A tip... use some nail polish in the holes of the plastic, it seals in any cut marks from the drill, and glues the LED's in place.
As for mounting, The original 2 bolt holes were used, I drilled through my plastic panel and mounted bolts, then filled the visable side with potting compound that pretty closely matches the plastic I used.
As for converting a set of taillights, I think you'd have to take the whole inside reflective lens out, and replace that with a plate full of LED's. Do get the brightest LED's you can find, my red ones I think are 1700mcd, I should have gotten the 2300's (I think those are the numbers). Just get the brightest ones you can get, although it does end up being an expense.
As for your yellow lights, you'll have to look to see how bright of an LED you can get in yellow, there may not be enough space to be as bright as the original.

In my town, the local Buses have Circular LED Tailights, Stop Lamps, and yellow Turn signals which I have been thinking of using for custom tailights.

I have been thinking of those tailights, (not exactly as those pictured) to be on a first Gen.

Since they are circular, they would look like the 90's tailights (actually 70's)

I'm 16, and bought my first rx7 yesterday :) its an 85, so it is older than me.

24, should have one within the next few weeks. i had a wrx that was totalled, a camry that let loose at 207,000 (rallied), and my present daily driver my parents old caravan. i originally got into rx7 through the track capabilities of the 3rd gen. so while waiting to get a higher paying job and 3rd gen, i wanted some cheap and fast to autox and rally. the 1st gen should foot all the bills as well as being a great rwd and rotary learning base.

I'm 19 but i'm on my 4th rx7 by now. I use to own an r100, then an '80 rx7, 83 rx7, '88 n/a. I currently own an '88 turbo 2, '84 rx7 12a (t4-t5 on the way) and a '94 300zx n/a. I was born and raised with rotaries my whole life. First it was the rx3 and rx4 my uncle use to own and my dad use to race an r100 when I was like 4 or 5 years old. Any rx is my favorite car.

I'm also 14 but I guess this little runt (no offance man) has got me beat,

I've had a 89 mustang, a 76 deville and a 54 chevy pickup (1 ton) the only thing is he Still has his cars. (the FB I just bought a 85 GS and you'll be seeing more of my posts in the time to come...)

21 Here... Red '83 GS is my primary ride, and then I used to have a '74 Fiat X19 that I sold to another forum member.
I never get tired of working on cars. Oh, and I also have a go-kart I built 10 years ago that still runs!

i'm 21 and i've had a '83 GSL for a little more than a year now. engine's strong as hell, but the carb needs a little work. and the rearend is a little loose, it seems.

All a bunch of kids LOL. Die hard Chevy fan til it was totaled . So before the wife spent the insurance money I needed something. Remember reading about rotaries when they first came out and saw this one ,84 gs,in the local paper. One thing for sure its a whole different area then pistons. So no problems yet that put the car out of commision. Like reading the forum for other peoples comments and laughs. This year its body work and sounds. Engine is fine for now. Now if I can just find that patience for body work.

I was in a junkyard looking for parts yesterday and the owners said they'g 'give' me a late 60's 850 spider for about 400. only problem is that it seems pretty rusted. good deal or not?

I have a story! Bought my 84gsl my senior year in high school....87'.....converted it to a 13b 4port w/holley. Then converted to 13b se motor with dellorto for autocrossing. Sold it in 95 when I got married. found it for sale on the parts trader in 00' in Houston and bought it back! Now I am preparing it for Fprepared.....full cage, bridge port,16x10 wheels, coil overs, tri-link rear, Tilton dual disc clutch & flywheel! YEEEEEHHHHAAAAAAA!!!!!

No wonder you're in your 1st RX-7 Heaven. I *wish* I could have bought the SE I sold 7 years ago.. The idiot had it stolen and stripped to the bone in less than an month. I told him that the little "SE" on the back meant it was very rare, and every one wanted it. Damn..

alright... well everyone else did it...

i learned to drive on daddy's 86 mazda b-2000. after 6 months of searching for a 2nd gen Trans Am in decent condition, i finally gave up... caved in and 'settled' for a rex. 5 speed and AC were my only requirements. but wow, am i ever glad i did.. i love my car now..... but i still have dreams of putting a hood scoop and a fiberglass/bondo psuedo-trans am rear end :) btw, it's an 85 (i turned 19 in feb) and i'm a girl.. does that get me bonus points?

being a girl does give you bone-us points :) and whats with two 14 year olds having cars??? all i had then was my 1972 Murray Moped, still have it and still runs nice.

Sorry, Digger, I'll be 44 in August! I've owned only 3 cars...1968 pontiac lemans, 1977 datsun B-210, and a 1979 datsun P.U. Never cared much about cars one way or the other really, but always the RX-7 caught my eye going down the road. Just so happened a few weeks ago I was at a friends house in Chattanooga (about 2 hours from me) talking about his daughter's upcoming wedding (I am doing the pictures-part-time photog) saw the rex in the driveway. I said, "Hey, I'll do the pics for the car!". He immediately agreed!:D
Somehow got it home, needed tuneup in worst way, got rust, ect.,anyway, I'm in love! Thanks to all of you, looks like I'm in it for keeps. What is it about these cars..........
