average age of 1st gen RX7 owners
 

Someone posted this question down deap on a thread and now I'm curious. I'm a old rotaryhead from way back in the early eighties. My first car was a 1976 Cosmo, man did I love that car! I rebuilt the engine twice before it fell to rust. At age 38, yeah I know I'm old fart hehe, I'm back in the saddle again with an 85 GS and lov'n it. Anyway, I'm betting that there are a bunch of guys or gals here that are younger than their cars. Just a guess. BTW, thanks to all for the terrific help I have received on this forum. I wish I had something like this back when I had my Cosmo. L8r

Okay, dumb question... What does "FB" and "FD" stand for?

fb - 1st gen
fc - 2nd gen
fd - 3rd gen

I'm 21 and have been around rotaries my whole life.

ASEmaster: FB FC and FD are VIN codes that refer to the 1st (81-85), 2nd (86-91), and 3rd(93+) generation RX-7's (respectively). The 79-80 RX-7 is referred to as an SA22C (or just SA) because that was before the day of the gov't. mandated 17 digit VIN.

I installed a low mile 6port 13b into a '85 GSL-SE chassis for a 60year old guy in feburay. Hes very into his car. Installed a light flywheel, header, and intake filter. Needless to say, hes happy with the results. He uses the car for autocross and road racing...I really hope I'm that interested in cars at that age! I'm am not saying my age since i have birthday coming up, but near mid 20's. Bought my 1st gen and 1st car for that matter at age 18 and also a 88 SE last july.

I am 27, bought my 1st FB in 1993. I am now on my seventh 1st gen. Two more here pertty soon.

I am addicted.

Just a youngin here.. turned 19 on the 13th of March this year. My first car was an '82 GSL that I owned before I was able to drive and the second car I bought was an '84 GSL-SE, which I still have. I've got a funny feeling I'll own at least one more before I'm done with college and after that, once I finally get a house with a garage, who knows.. damn.. why are cars so addictive? :D

For me it's not "cars" that are addictive, it's RX's! I've owned a lot of cars, my first being a Cosmo, and I'll tell ya.... none of 'em really turned me on like the rotary. Boingers are ordinary and boring. I have two other cars besides my RX-7 and I don't even care to work on them. I'd rather bring 'em to the shop and have someone else do the work.

Well guys, so far I guess I'm the gramps at 42. I've always had american high perf, mostly buick gs and chevy products. I used to be an ASE certified master tech but lost my interest in working on cars many years ago - Until I recently discovered the FBs. The engines are amazing enough to re-ignite my love of the performance automobile. You all are lucky to have them available for resonable prices at your ripe young years , kind of like when I was in high school and you could by a late 60's big block camaro for a couple grand.

i turned 17 in sept '01, and that's the month i went to buy my first car, an 84 gsl-se. it had 139k miles, ran well, had 1 year old tokico illuminas, used race tires/wheels, a new helmet, 4-point harness, new ring and pinion, and other parts all for $1500. i wanted to get it to autox, but since i didnt have a job, it would have cleaned out my savings. my dad said he'd pay for everything as long as i did all the work on the car and he got to autox with me. WHAT A DEAL!!!!!! so this whole winter has been a big learning experience, and thanks a whole lot to everyone in this forum. it would have been a huge struggle without your support and help. thanks a bunch!!

Well geez I feel like a little kid being I just turned 18 in Dec. Got my first RX-7 a '79 back in 2000 and just got the 83 a few weeks ago.

well, I'm not allowed to vote on polls for some reason, but I'm 22. I've pretty much been around rotaries since I was 13 or so; there is a thread in the lounge how did you learn about the rotary and thats got my story.
I've had my FB for almost 6 1/2 years.

Woah, Im only up to 3 right now, going to pick up my 4th right now...We used to have 8 Fiat 850's and 1 Fiat X-19 though...:D

I am a guessing I am the youngest here at 14? Well I own a 79 rx7, and an 80 rx7, a 77 VW CAMPER VAN< ALSO SWEET, and a 63 short bed rust bucket truck :). LATERZ,

What's really funny though is the fact that I've owned 6 cars already at 19. First was a '79 Triumph TR7, which I still have. Then my '82 GSL. Then my '84 GSL-SE. Then a '68 Corvair, now that thing kicked ass, 110 hp and a PowerSlide tranny. Too bad it was rusted to beat hell. Then I inherited my current daily driver, an '87 Chevy Celebrity. And I just got my new toy a '73 Triumph GT6. So for me, it's not just rotaries that are addictive, it's unordinary sports cars.. and yes, the Corvair is a sports car.. "bite me" to the naysayers... LOL

I'm 16, and already own a '79 RX-7 GS, two 1981 Honda Accords, and a 1963 Honda 55R Trailbike. I'd have to say, the RX is the best ride I have. The Honda that runs is a fun beater car, but the RX takes the top spot. The trailbike you ask? Well, it's de-commissioned at the moment, but it's getting overhauled next winter, and it should run like new.

hm, well i'm 20, so that'd put me in the middle of you guys, and so far I have ever only owned 2 cars. My RX-7 and my beater Honda Accord.

Gotta love the rotary, just gotta. I'm like a missionary, converting the unfaithful. My Ford-head friend has been heard to say "the only imports I respect are Mazdas" a few times. Oh yea ye enlightened souls, for thee will see the fierce power of the triangle ;)

(both fuel injected 5-speeds, coincidence? I think not)

got my 84 GSL-SE with 96k on it in june of 2000 at 23yrs old. It was previously beaten, noted by the bad supplimental wiring in places and the absent oil cooler, not to mention no emission hookup to the cat, so only 4 ports for a long time. Even had the right rear trailing arm link half ripped (rusted) off the car, so a nice welding project to start with.
I have had to weld the drivers side since then, new 'home made' exhaust from the cat back. all 3 cats are empty... what was left wasn't doin anything anyway. Still no oil cooler :( but it's been fine until a heater return hose slowly leaked coolant until I overheated and the low coolant light came on. I think that's what caused the recent (at 140k) prob with coolant blowing out due to an engine seal leak.
But all said... 145k and while not doing great, still doing good enough for a daily driver.

And i've got a cool light I made for the rear :)

BTW, if anyone has a GSL-SE for sale i'm looking for another one... that's not rusted out from northern winters.
