Couldnt you just weld in a bolt in cage? Like just weld the flanges that the bolts are supposed to go through to the floor or whatever?

Yes, if you could take pics, that would be great.
I too prefer Weld in, but as RMD posted, you can always Weld a Bolt in.

Or you could spend about three times as much as a bolt-in would cost you and buy a real nice custom-built cage that will protect you much better in a crash, allow easier entry/exit, give you more cockpit space, stiffen the chassis more, and look nicer.

It's an easy call...if you have the money.

I just want a rear cage with a harness bar. Just for the little added protection, not to mention a place to mount my harnesses, lol.

The 83591's have been tested in untold numbers of pretty bad crashes and have never (to my knowledge) hurt any of its occupants. I have personally seen them get T-boned, be in rollovers, endo's, etc. and have yet to see a driver not get out of the car. I've seen expensive, fancy, custom cages kill people when T-boned at the same speed as the bolt-in.

In my second car, I welded in some 1/4" plate under the flanges and extended it up the rocker panel. I would suggest using 3/8", since its a little lighter and does the same job.

I'll go snap some pics here soon. Anything you'd like to see in particular?

Show the mounting points in detail. And maybe a picture of you or any adult driver in the car to give us an idea of the space it takes up in the car.

you should always fit reinforcing plates under a bolt in cage ... they should be at least 3mm thick and be a good deal bigger than the 'foot' of the cage.

Don't forget that you need to use high grade bolts too.

the autopower bolt ins do cramp space. left leg gets cramped. they bolt to the floor up front and the almost vertical hump in the back. not the best places. but some cage is better than none!

i had a custom 10 point cage that tied into strut tower reinforcements and crossbraces plus a gauge pod (no gauges but did included a brushed aluminum gauge mounting face) welded in for $1500. Real good stuff. Quality welds and big fat plates for the tubes to mount to. i trust my cage.

I've got a few pics of the cage up. I'm the only adult here at the moment, so I can't give you any pics. I'm 6'2", and the guy that owned the car before me was either 6'5" or 6'6". The seat as it is mounted now is about 6 inches away from the rear hoop.

The thing that makes it so difficult to get in and out of is the seat and the door bars. I don't know what your application is, but if you can get by with just a rear hoop, I would suggest that if you want your car to remain a daily driver. If its going to be a full race/track car, then I would suggest this cage. Also, if you're not too tall, a seat adjuster that you can put all the way back to get in or out of and slide forward would be nice. My Kirkey seat is bolted to the floor.

If anybody wants to see some other pics, let me know, I can run out and snap them.

I think it has something to do with the fact that its cheap, and racers are poor!
