Audio guru's, help me with Christmas!

Maybe this should be in the lounge or someplace, but I trust & know you guys will steer me right.
My son wants 2 12" speakers for Christmas. He's going to put them in a box of some sort himself, I really don't know squat about this stuff. Ebay is full of dozens of brands & prices.
What's the best for the buck? Looking to spend about $100 or so. Is that not enough for good un's?
Oh yes, they'll be mounted in his "cough" HONDA!

Thanks for the help!

does he want sound or good sound?

If it is just sound try pioneer, sony, bottom end fockford fosgate, or bottom end eclipse

If it is good sound think about doubling or trippling that 100 dollar for good equipment

I used to be big in the audio scene (had a Nissan NX 2000 with 6 12" RF xlc (sp) with two sets of 1" dome tweets, memphis 5 1/2"front 6 1/4 rears and memphis 1000 amp ans memphis 440 4 channel pulling 2nd place in db drag. This setup (not including box, wiring, battery, alternator) cost around 6k. Now that I have kids the family car has 2 12" Eclipse on a 440 memphis wiht everything else factory, and my rex doesnt even have a head unit in it.

So my answer is it is up to you wether he gets sound or a kick *** sound system

peace

Long as I'm buying, he'll settle for 'sound'.
Thanks for the tip!

Since he wants 12-inchers, I'd make a guess he's wants to build a subwoofer box so he and everybody from here to the International Space Station can "feel" the music! If that's the case, neither "sound" nor "good sound" plays a role; it's all bass distoration anyway

Check these out at Radio Shack, $38.95 each...
'Course they're 8-ohm, but they'll work.

Or these at Crutchfield, $49.95 ea... They're 4-ohm and will work better.

Crutchfield also has a nice twin 12" sub system with box and amp for $999 if you REALLY want to make his Christmas "special".
