swing by my place and check out what I did... sounds like you could use mine as an example. I didn't even use the stock air box.

Carl- looks like a neat idea!! Too bad I can't use it!!

It's great actually being able to put numbers by what you've done!!!

On the SE's the only thing one could really do is toss the air box itself. must have the AFM though , so it looks like a cone airfilter instead of an airbox. for EFI it's limited. now if your rich there's tons of **** one could buy.

Carl, what about creating an airbox that seals against
the hood with a vent ???maybe not.

I'm not IoTus, but that's my car he posted pics of. Yes, it works GREAT. And yes, it did make a big difference fromt the K&N drop in filter. You can't see it very well, but I have the sheet metal cut out next to the side of the air filter, so it is getting much cooler air than it was before. I noticed a big difference.

If others don't like it, too bad. It works quite well, and I like it. End of story.

Now, if you would like to try it, by all means ask away. I did it all for under 10 bucks. (most muffler shops will give you that length of pipe for free)

Carl, I thought you were going to make a piece of metal to replace the one next to the radiator on the passenger side to get a nice cool fresh air stream. How hard would this be?

I would suggest you just cut a hole for a duct/hose and run it to the air box for a simple cold air intake. It wouldnt be economical for me to make replacement shrouds.

You can get it at Sears.

I cut holes in the side and cut out the cross piece from the stock air box and JB welded it in there. I used the stock wing nut and everything. Works great!! You'll need a Dremel to cut the slots out, though. Come over and look at it... you'll get the best view that way. I haven't seen your car since you put the manual tranny in it anyway.

PM me for directions to my new place... I'm off of North Ash.

Heh, I'm digging this out... wondering if this ever made it into production? I know mazdacomp sales a new filter housing with a similar design and advertises it as a 12 hp increase, so this could be promising? I'm also looking for a emissions legal version, and eventually a sterling carb as well...

"Emissions Legal", "Air box with no holes" and "Sterling Carb" aren't usually things that go together.

These never made it to production due to lack of interest, but a similar design is available at www.iscracing.net.

http://www.iscracing.net/air_fuel.htm

It doesn't have as much of a funnel to it, but it's better than nothing.

Wow back from the dead. I have the Mazdacomp/ISC one and the RB one as well I bought for flowbench and race testing during development of my arr box. They both tested good but the ISC/Mazdacomp one is better IMO.

Jon, it has more of a velocity stack than you see in the pics. Its actually a good flowing part.

Hurricane? Havent seen one of those since '04 Mark. Funny you should mention that. I have an 4" HKS which again I bought for developmental testing (yes I spend alot of $ on products for airflow testing/learning purposes). It has a velocity stack similar to the ISC one, but has a mushroom foam filter on top. It tested well also. But after a few years, the foam has turned to dust. And elements are like $50. Unless someone can find one cheaper. Hows the treehouse?

I don't know,,, haven't been up there in months. the outside is getting over-grown so it REALLY is hard to see it up there. I know it's not going anywhere with those 10 inch lag bolts and railroad ties supporting it. it was fun building the thing.....
