anyone see somthing wrong with my choices?

well, here are my two options

1.keep the 12a in my gsl, and sell the 13b i have.

2.give the 12a to my mechanic, in return, he'll put my 13b in the gsl for free.
the 13b has its 5th and 6th ports removed(...REMOVED.)

i am almost positive that what i want to do now is keep the 12a, get a good exhaust and keep the dellorto carb. it's running rich, but rotorhead gave me everything he had researched about tuning the carb. then save up...(wait untill im ready for really fast car,) then get it a streetport/race port. (i dont have the right to explain the secret, so im leaving it blunt.) and if i save up a shitload, get a lightend steel flywheel.

so far i like the 12a and it's tranny more than that of a FC. but the 13b has much more potential. RB headers for the 13b, but i have a RB presilencer for the 12a. neither of them used at all.

but i dont know if im ready to handle a car that fast...

does anyone have an experience or opinions on my situation?? i'd really like some more opinions on this.

What do you mean by this? Do you just mean a 4-port 13b?

im not a master on the subject but what some people "wire" open, was removed on my car. that either makes it a 4 port 13b or a full time 6 port.

hahhaha, i've got one vote for 12a and one for 13b

13b. more potential and it sounds alittle better than the 12a.

and its a free install (minus the old engine)

*sticks the other hand into the air*

I'm gonna pout and try to get my vote for the 12a to count for two!

go the 13B! A 6 port 13B with EFI will go just as well, if not better than a stock 12AT

Unfortionaltly we dont have the 12at here in the states.
Personally my vote has to go for the 12a! If you are going to have to buy new exhaust and all that crapo, it just isnt worth it.
Keep the 12a and put the 13b in a Karmen Giah.

goo with the 13b. its now(for free) or latter( for money) either way if you use the 12a you will be always wanting more power and be unhappy with the choice of going with the 12a. the exhuast is a non issue, just hook up what you have to the 13b header untell you can upgrade latter. that should be included in the bartered install. 12a dellorto = 150hp max if lucky 13b s5 = 180hp stock easy to mod to 200hp. more hp can be had than that. the 12a with out forced air is very hard to get past 175hp ported/tuned/ignion/.../../... get the idea. more hp = more fffuuuuunnnnnn

3. Keep everything you have. Leave the 12a in there and start saving up to do a street port (and other goodies) on the 13b. I know, we all want instant gratification, but sometimes waiting a year is the better option.
Also, you could then sell the 12a, carb, intake to recoup some of the $$. R&R an engine in a 1st gen is so easy it's a frigign joke. Then again, I have opposing digits which are a big help.

if you plan to streetport ever...6 ports are lame for streetports...keep the 12a.
If you dont have a lot of money and just want the most bang for your buck...go with the 13b...but try to get the 5/6 ports working so your driveability wont suck.
Above all...go with the one that is in better condition..have you done a compression check..whats the mileage like on these things?

use the 12a plates on the 13b to make a 4 port

sell the rest of the 12a parts

carb and do a small bridge on the 13b

use the 13b. Make it a real 4 port. then you can easily turbo it!! You have SOOOO much more of a potential with a 13b.

Here, instead of just going by people's opinion, go by what Mazda has done... they started putting the 13b in Rx-7's in 84, then that was the only option after 86.... hmm... makes ya wonder which one Mazda thought was best, doesn't it?

Also, notice my sig.

If your low budget, then go with the 13b, the 12a will leave you wanting more *****. The 13b, match up the ports, keep the EFI, the installation is free, ( does that mean running ?) The 12a is a good engine, but after porting will it make some better power and that means $$$$

12a 13b

But seriously, if money is the big issue i'd stay with the 12a. All the parts are cheaper and i think 12a is perfect to learn how to work on rotaries. In now way i'm knocking the 13b..i'm still planning on maybe getting one again some day after i get a little richer.

The only way a 12a can produce the torque and power
that will leave in awe, is a full blown race porting job.
or for that matter the whole thing would have to be ' race' not very good on gas, and not very good on the street either. The 13b's have respsectable ratings for torque and HP. I own both, my 82 has a 12a, and my 84 is an -SE(13b) depending on the year 13b for power ratings. I think a 1990 is a very good year for a 13b 160 horse power i think or maybe more. You would like the 13b better. IMO.
