anyone running kyb AGX's?
i started a thread! zomg!
ive got a set of blown up illuminas in my car, and i'm thinking about kyb agx's. they are nice in the FC.
i'm mostly worried about the fronts, as the rear shock isnt that special. they do have an app that fits, just wondering if anyone is running it?
or does bilstein make a strut insert that fits?

i dont think KYB ever made an AGX that ever fit, and as far as I know Bilstein doesn't amke the struts that people were using in the front anymore. Last I heard you can still get the sprint car Bilstein shocks that people were using in the rear though. Call Mike at ISC racing he might have a part number laying around.

just get the 85-86 mr2 rear inserts and throw them in the front. They are stiffer and shorter than whats available for our cars. HZ1086 for the blues and BZ1086 for the illuminas. I run them illuminas in the front of my car. You can get old stock koni's from classic garage, but yourun the risk of buying old dead struts with no warrenty.
the rears you have options Tokico blues, illuminas, bilstein sprint car struts flipped upside down, kyb gas-a-justs(what I use), Koni's

infoz!
the 81-85 strut tube is 14mm long (tape measure inside tube) 355mm approx. strut inserts are 43.5mm diameter.
the bz1086 insert is 14" from the top of the body to the bottom. measurement i found online was from the HYDRAULIC top of the body to the bottom, 13.5"
the sw20 AGX has a 360mm long body, 43.5 diameter. i do not know if that measurement includes the little spacer on the bottom or not. i do not know the length of the SA strut tube, but these look like they would fit the SA really nice. since its an mr2 REAR, they are valved for a heavy car, or light car and stiff springs.
koni also lists 2 inserts, double adjustable 8611 and single 8612? they are spendy though
bilstein has something, but their catalog makes my head hurt
my car came with a set of illuminas that the ground control camber plates have totally destroyed, so i looked for other options

The Bilsteins you are talking about is what I am currently running on the rear. Great shocks for very high performance, but they will wear you out on a long trip if its a daily driver. I would recommend an adjustable shock for the rear...

the rear i did not look at, as they are just normal shocks! every MFR makes something that will fit

Are these off the shelf Bilsteins? Or were they modified so that they could mount up normally?

I have struts from the front of a 2000 Miata on the rear of my car. For now I'm using the oem ones but you could buy any struts you wanted for that application including the kyb agx.
