Anyone from Australia or Japan...

Ok, all you Aussies and Japanese out there... I have some cream coloured leather seats out of a '83 GSL in my '78 right hand drive Savanna RX-7. They are both in pretty good condition. I'm looking to trade these for the original beige plaid seats that came with the car. Does anyone out there have these? I NEED the plaid seats!

I have recently bought a Sept 1978 Yellow RHD Japanese built Savanna which has 4 plaid seats. The edges[bolsters] are in black vinyl but the plaid material is disintegrating Even the rear seats, which can not have had any use, are in the same condition. This may be as a result of exposure to very bright sunlight when the car was in Malaysia for 5 years, before coming to Ireland.

Yellow? Cool! Do you mean the seats are black with plaid down the middle? or is the black on the the actual side and back of the seat?. What colour of plaid is it? Mine are all plaid in front (with 2 brown vinyl pinstripes) and brown vinyl on the sides (not the part you sit on) and the backs. What's your vin# BTW?

RXcetera: My '79 has plaid seats. The bolsters are black vinyl and the fabric is a beige/black plaid pattern. The build date of my car is 4/78. Are you saying that these seats are special? Unfortunately, mine are in terrible shape.

The seats are black edged with black and white plaid down the middle where you sit. The plaid also has a few light brown/yellow threads running from front to rear. The headrest is black vinyl as is the back and base of the seats. I presume the plaid would not be as hot to touch as the black vinyl when in the sun in Malasia where the car came to Ireland from.
The VIN No./Chassis No. stamped on the rear of the engine compartment is SA22C 130254 which may give a clue to it's spec. It has a Savanna RX-7 badge on the rh front wing near the indicator repeater and GT on the rear panel above the bumper. I have seen no references to the "GT"model when surfing the net, have you any ideas? , mayby it was a Japanese spec as the warning notices in the engine bay are in Japanese. Is there a Malasian spec? The car also has steel wheels, a/c, carb.and a single outside mirror and rear drums.
No photos yet but see the illustrations of earlier models on the Mazda Australia site

Hi.

As we discovered a little while ago, RXcetera, our cars have quite close chassis numbers.

However, I don't think my seats are the style that you are looking for. (My ones aren't for sale, anyway. I'm just interested.)

I took some photos of my car, and I am going to create a site with them. In the meantime, I have rushed up a crappy webpage so you can see the seats:

http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/~jamesmcl/rx7.html

Only the back seats can be seen, because I have covers on the front. It's dark outside at the moment, and my torch won't work properly, but I think they have green and brown stripes that are too fine to be clearly visible in the pictures.

Bye,
