You just missed mine by a week.I sold it to a CA guy.

I was a Uhaul dealer for 10 years. They dont make a receiver hitch for 1st gens.Someone else might, but I never could find one that did.The hitch Uhaul carries for 1st gens (which is a Brophy hitch with Uhaul's sticker on it) is a tab hitch. It bolts to the chassis and under the bumper pretty cleanly, but the ball mount isnt removable. The ball will block your plate and cops love that for pull overs......

I cut mine off and welded a squarestock tube under the tab, to insert a Class1 (1 1/4") receiver into.It worked great for years and still cleared my rear fiberglass skirt. If you have basic fab skills, its easy to do.The Hitch was about 150 bucks from Uhaul. The raised receiver style mount and ball was about 40 bucks and got my hitch up high enough for most small trailers.

As much as I hate the idea of hitches on RX-7s....

I think mine is pretty stealthy. It bolts in place of the bumper and the bumper cover is riveted to it, so all you see is a small hole in the cover. Nothing sticks out until you slide in the ball hitch. It was very simple to fabricate, so anyone with a welder should be able to replicate it.

Had two of those in my previous cars. Actually, removed both. Installed one on a third and sold both of them. They all had a very nice frame arround the liscence plat

Really want a receiver.

Just got off the phone with U-Haul: $199.95 just for the parts and he couldn't tell if it is a receiver.

Might have to go down to some folks here to have them make one for me. Hopefully, under 25% of what the car's worth!

Thanks everybody.

You would be suprised. My "halfling" RX-7 trailer is probably 600 lbs loaded and I drove it 8,000 miles in a week and a half a couple years ago, with my peripheral port 13B 1st gen. It was only nerveracking on steep, twisty, down-hills under braking (tail wagging the dog), but otherwise totally fine. I even got 15mpg average over the whole trip.

A "normal" tire trailer, like a the $159 Harbor Freight one, is probably less than a couple hundred pounds loaded, so no worries there.

Found it!:

https://www.hitch-web.com/

Manufacture is:

SKU: 2043
DaLan #: 217318
Class I Fixed Mount for 1985 Mazda RX7 GSL-SE Coupe 2 Door

About the weight: I towed a Waverunner, about 600lb. Worked much better than the larger cars.

The above hitch is a ball bar. They can build a receiver for me @$250. Have to find a wilder to finish the installation, though.

Thank you, Blake:

I am studying what you did. Looks like you fabricate a bumper with the receiver welded on and bolt it onto the absorber's nuts.

I might ended up doing that and I would just make one change to it:

either use a 1 1/4 or the same 2" but let it come out a little bit lower.

Current thinking is to hide it behnd the liscence plat and swing the plat upwards in use.

Thanks for the picture. Wish I have the means to make a trailer like yours.
