Any hope???
A friend just bought an '83 RX7 that had been stored (improperly) for some years. The motor is now seized, and I have heard this is a problem for rotary motors. Is there any quick fix? Is the motor going to need a tear-down? Please, any help greatly appreciated.

Well, if no one else is going to answer, I will. That car will run great with a 5.0 Ford! I'm not an expert on rotaries, but I think you'll play hell getting it unfrozen without damaging anything. Pour ATF or a good penetrating oil through the carb and into the spark plug holes, let it soak (a day or so), try to turn it over, repeat as necessary. Use LOTS of oil (and patience) and don't try to force it to turn, just gently persuade it. If you're really lucky, it will free up. If not, it's time for another engine.

Soak it in ATF for a day or so, then remove jack up the drivers side of the car. Put it on jackstands for safety.
Remove the starter. There is one thru-bolt that goes all the way through the tranny, and one bolt that grounds the starter.
You now have access to the ring gear. Using a large prybar or such, try and turn the engine over the OPPOSITE DIRECTION that it usually spins. I believe from underneath the car looking up at the ring gear, this is counterclockwise, or right to left.
Gradually work the ring gear back and forth, until it starts to break loose. You may come across "rough spots" that will require alot of elbow grease and time to work through.
It helps to use some spray paint to mark your starting point on the flywheel; that way you will know when the engine has made one complete revolution because the paint mark will come back around.
I'm not real sure, but I think you need to turn the ring gear through 3 revolutions before the rotors have made a complete turn.
Now have your friend fire it up and wish him luck. If its blown, it will sound like a screamin demon when he revs it. If its not, then it was just carbon lock.
