antenna replacement?

the power antenna on my -se is busted; doesn't come up. what are y'all using as a replacement? my old '83 gsl had a neato little black rubber thing that i'm not even sure worked (i never could find where it went to behind the dash to plug it in lol), but it looked pretty hot.

so what do you use, and post pics if you got 'em!

Power antennas are a PITA. Water gets into them and kills 'em outright. And anything that telescopes (power or manual) is easily damaged or vandalized when up.

Best to just spend $15 on a metal non-retracting/non-telescoping flexible antenna. they stand up to all manner of punishment (car washes) and abuse (jealous punks who figure that if they can't have it, niether can you). Only takes five minutes to install.

What're you gonna do with the old one? I like tinkering with stuff like that, so I'd pay to have it shipped to me if you want to get rid of it.

I used a rubber s2000 style antenna to replace mine.

if you want, i have the stock antenna. the motor worked (i can hea it wine up and down) but it seemed the actual antenna shaft was frozen or something so it wouldn't go up and down.

I put the black rubber one on my 84 GSL when my electric one went T/U recently. A lot cheaper and looks "pretty hot". Works great! Just replaced the electric one on my big sedan. Not realy a PITA if you have patience and a meter to check the wires. Took me a little over an hour. The power antennas are pricey - about 60 bucks. The little black ones are about 10 bucks.

Used to be able to get the Radio Shack universal foreign replacement for $15 - $20 on eBay - they work great. It's a PITA to get them in and out, but it can be done. And when you rewire it do it so the antenna goes down when you switch off the ignition. There are instructions in the archive.
