That'd be great if you don't mind!

Bit of an update...got an S3 tank to replace my rusty one which meant cutting out the spare wheel well but that has made access for plumbing it all in nice and easy. So my surge tank arrived and I picked up some fuel hose and fittings so that is all ready to be pieced together.

My delivery of electrical bits and bobs arrived too allowing me to make a start on the loom so injector loom is done...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/0240f981.jpg

This allowed me to get on and reassemble the rest of the top end so this is far as I got today. (Elbow on order)
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/2e705b0c.jpg

The throttle body has been simplified the best I could, it's an S5 body with the better TPS and I have stripped it of all the cruise control crap etc. I've also removed the one set of butterflies and chemical metaled up the holes that were left...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/6987a06f.jpg

Also today mounted the trailing ignitors...

Getting there.

being this is a s4 13b and i see you got a gsl-se front cover and what looks like a gsl-se oil pan what did you use for the oil pickup tube? the 13b turbo 2 pickup tube?

captainbizzaro 03-28-11 12:08 PM

No it's a 12a oil pickup.:)

captainbizzaro 03-28-11 03:52 PM

Got my intercooler back tonight with the brackets in the right place...

http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/22666887.jpg

Offered it up and they are spot on so really happy with that, plus he's done an amazing job on them.

turbo2SE 03-28-11 09:18 PM

thanks for the input Tim im going to use my 12a oil pickup tube since i have it . and wont be using my 12a anymore. not having luck finding a gsl-se oil pickup tube anyways . so that will make things easyer.

build is looking good would like to see more pics on the fuel setup.

im doing something like this on my 81 gsl. so far i got a 13b s4 n/a and i got another stock turbo and making a custom header for it . only problem im running into to converting my tank to efi with a extra fc tank.

like this idea.

I like the idea of having an intank pump but I'm gonna stick with me external Bosch 044 and surge tank for this season and see how it pans out. I know it's gonna be noisy as hell in there but I've no interior so quiet isn't really on the agenda anyway!

captainbizzaro 03-30-11 04:28 PM

Bit more looming tonight-thought I'd sort out the sensor side of things (apart from the CAS which is screened) so the loom for water temp, air temp and TPS is done...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/0f595155.jpg
And also the 3 pin plug crimped onto the TPS...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/08a03471.jpg

I want to retain the stock temp gauge too though so any thoughts on this? I guess I'll just have to tap another thread into the water pump area and fit a 12a thermosensor.

cfamilyfix 03-30-11 10:02 PM

Is there a coolant temp sensor on the rear housing area under the oil filter and bee hive cooler like on the 12a? You could use that...

captainbizzaro 03-31-11 08:43 AM

All sorted, the ECU can use the one on the thermostat housing and the stock needle can use the one under the oil filter pedestal. Cheers cfamilyfix.

captainbizzaro 04-09-11 04:13 AM

Bit more progress, tapped a thread into the chassis rail for the rubber isolation mounts to sit the IC on...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/9a240f25.jpg
So intercooler now bolted in as is the radiator.
Made my turbo oil feed and return...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/c1a6371d.jpg
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/f671a8ba.jpg
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/2f866bdc.jpg
Lastly, I set to work on the FC oil cooler. The brackets faced the wrong way for what I needed so added some angle iron to the existing bracket....
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/be5ac461.jpg
Added some 5x20mm flat bar to give me drop...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/b4ab6291.jpg
And hung it off of the front tubular beam using exhaust clamps....
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/39e71a05.jpg
This is a test fit as I plan to include some form of rubber mounting to replicate the idea of the stock bracket. The oil cooler itself isn't pretty as you can see, but it is oil tight and clear of debris.

Next up, make oil cooler lines and finish fuel system.

captainbizzaro 04-17-11 04:52 PM

Made up coil loom the other night, also in this loom is the trigger for the electric fan relay which will be controlled by the ECU...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/be7f8daf.jpg
Remounted the fusable links (to be replaced with a proper fuse box shortly) and mounted/connected fan relay...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/4817a073.jpg
Heratshrinked the alternator loom and connected up...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/9a2235e4.jpg
I'm picking up my switched +12V from the original coil feeds but as this supply is fused quite high a installed a small fuse box to protect the smaller cables going off to the ECU etc...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/2c374c31.jpg
And ran everything through the bulkhead to the glovebox...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/0e91e7bd.jpg
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/3131922b.jpg
And a little while later ended up with...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/60cf8ab3.jpg
Also went hunting around a junkyard for some fans and scored these out of a small euro hatchback-
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/d52eb358.jpg
After a bit of trimming they fit well and only cost £10 ($15).

Don't mention it dude! Just don't send me the bill.:)

Thanks for the positive comments.

Nice surprise in the mail today...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/c54c99db.jpg
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/8b5e10ac.jpg
Couldn't resist test fitting my hoses, thankfully it all fits nicely...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/5922a588.jpg
As you can see in the second picture, I have the hose and fittings to make up the cooler lines. The company I dealt with crimped an M18 banjo on each end of 2m of hose for the cooler and supplied the other banjo and straight M16 fitting for the front cover to cover the engine end. That's my job for tomorrow, then it's time to fluid up and see what happens.

captainbizzaro 04-23-11 02:01 PM

This is what happened! The initial smoke is from the oil I had in the housings while it was sat.

Make oil cooler lines...(boiling water and push fit onto barbed fittings)
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/a30be769.jpg
Fluid up!
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/739c7d05.jpg
No oil leaks, three water leaks but easy fixes.:)
Test electrics...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/b1c96090.jpg
Annnnnnnnd...

http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...h_0e95d4b5.jpg
Tail shaft being made next week then exhaust on and map.:icon_tup:

cfamilyfix 04-23-11 09:46 PM

Sounds great!! Great job!!

captainbizzaro 04-24-11 01:23 AM

Thanks! Got a bit of fettling to do to make it idle properly but will wait until the exhaust is on for that as the open pipe is a bit antisocial!

captainbizzaro 04-25-11 01:04 PM

Braced top of intercooler last night to prevent any unwanted movement, finished gearbox mount-modified an S5 mount in the end...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/9d50d5a5.jpg
And started reassembly of the nose...
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/67a6de6d.jpg

captainbizzaro 04-29-11 04:55 PM

Everything externally back in one piece now, exhaust on today then calibrated TPS and now we got a nice idle. Pretty happy right now.
http://i599.photobucket.com/albums/t...h_43d17c28.jpg
Also got a safe map done to allow me to get some mileage on to check for leaks etc before proper mapping and boost. This was only at 0.2Bar but still love the noise. Loving being back in a working rotang.:)

Is there anyway of having more fun with your clothes on than driving a 13BT FB?

I don't think there is. (click on picture for short vid)
