Another "steaming" report

97k orignal miles in an 83 GS. My buddy poured about 1/4 gallon of distilled water down the carb while I kept it from dying.

After we finished. The slight roughness in the idle was gone, and it seemed to rev much quicker with no load.

Then I took it on the street and was very suprised at the difference I felt. First gear pulled harder than I had ever felt it do (then again I've put less than 1k on the car since I've owned it) and I could catch 2nd with no problem, where i had to shift really hard to do it in the past.

All in all its a great thing to do for a rotary with some miles on it, seems pretty safe and seemed to make a decent difference.

Pour.

If you search, there should be other threads on the subject, the theory is that it steams up and helps break up some of the carbon inside the engine, it seems to work pretty well.

*takes note*

One of these days I'll get off my lazy butt and update the "Decarbonizing a Rotary" article to include the handful of first-hand accounts I've recieved about the various methods. Glad it worked for you

i did this to my car this morning... warmed it up and kept it alive while i poured water in it.. about 5 minutes and 16 oz later, my motor was still going, so i drove it around the block.. had a couple of hiccups, but i think that was just a little water left over in the carb, or perhaps carbon loosening and flying out.. drove it about 20 miles so far today and it's doing great.
