another starter question

if anyone has ever looked at a starter from a first gen there is one stud and one bolt hole where the starter is bolted down, i put the starter on, bolted it down i have a little problem... there is 2 connections i need to hook up but only one bolt left, i traced them both and one is from the battery so natural i hook that one up to the one bolt i have stickin out of the starter, the other one goes into the engine sum where i dont know exactly where... but yea,i cannot put both connections on the same bolt because somethign almost that looks like a pulley system up at the driver side of the engine bay goes on and stays on until i take it off, i am beat for ideas so i was hoping someone here could help me, thx for all imput
