seafoam is the name of the product. comes in a white metal can and can be used for a variety of applications, it can be used on pretty much any engine. it's also a fuel stabilizer

well, getting it INTO the valve could be difficult, even getting it close could pose a problem. I suggest reading rotaries for beginners, or whatever similar title you can find.

Once a year I'll use a full can with 1/8 tank of gas. 1st time I did this, I drove it hard for a few miles and suddenly felt a HUGE burst of power. I figure I had a stuck seal or something. Works for me...
It eats the carbon out of the apex seal groves allowing the apex seals to move more and seal the cumbustion chamber better. My gas mileage went up 5mpg freeway just doing the seafoam trick. I drive a minimum of 100 miles a day for my job so I know it's not a placebo...

I personally wouldn't put it in the oil. It is a strong detergant and might damage you oil rubber oil controle seals. Jus tmy oppinion, but it is the **** in a vaccume line or in the gas tank.

Seafoam works on piston engines and improves idle and fuel mileage. Why, because it cleans out the carbon. As much as we think we are different than pistons, carbon can be an even bigger problem for us, than them.

Putting it in the gas tank will clean the entire fuel system and slowly clean the carbon out of the engine. Putting directly into the engine will clean the the path it takes to the combustion chambers and clean the carbon out quicker. Does it work, yes it does, and it works better than MMO because it is more of a detergent where MMO is more of a lube.

ATF can do the same thing, I have used it for years on piston engines. On a rotary, I don't know due to the oil control rings. If one is concerned about putting chemicals directly into thier engine, water can have a similiar cleaning effect.

How would you put it through the intake on a RacingBeat intake setup for a 12a ? Through the vacuum advance line off of the distributor to the carb or the vacuum line that runs from the master cylinder to the intake below the carb ? And how much would you use in the intake ? Never used the stuff but have a can in the garage just for the rex.

If you really want to do it that way, you can just slowly pour it into the carb while keeping it running. I would recommend what I mentioned earlier though, just run it in a strong concentration through the gas tank.

If you just want to clean the combustion chambers quickly, use a vacuum port, vac advance is fine. If you want to clean the entire fuel system and the internals of the carb, add it to the tank. Honestly, if one needs it do it both ways and clean everything.

wait, being a detergent, isnt anyone worried about the damage that the Seafoam might do to the gaskets and such, mainly the oil seals and others?

I always get some smoke at startup..once warmed up it no longer smokes
added the seafoam 5 days ago..past 3 days just a little whisp at startup..doesn't prove anything for sure, but certainly no damage either
use at your discretion

Motor oils contain detergents also.

yeah, but my thought was like how rotarys shouldnt use Synthetics , not because of the Ash content but the detergents in it deteiorate the oil seals...

would it be a good alternative to the old ATF/MMO startup procedure?

Since most of us use dino motor oil, that is the oil I was refering too. Dino oils, many years ago, didn't contain any detergents and literally plugged up engines. I remember my father and a friend of his trying to unplug the oil galleys on mom's Ford wagon, using ATF and a coat hanger, it was that bad.

There are many start up proceedures, which one are you refering to?

What vacuum line works best for the GLS-SE. I was thinking of half a can in the fuel tank and the other sucked through a vacuum line.

Any suggestions?

I've put seafoam down the carburetor on my other car and it produces a very large cloud of white smoke and it takes quite a while for the car to go back to normal. Obviously, if you put it in your gas tank it won't be as concentrated, but will you be mistaken for a crop duster while driving around?

****!! Contact any reputable rotary engine builder and ask them what kind of oil they recomend and they will all tell you synthetic! Racing Beat, Pineapple, Mazdatrix, and so on! Synthetics are fine... Synthetics these days leave less ash then dino's.

Hate to jump on the bandwagon here guys but I went out and got me some seafoam and poured it into the gas tank, (98 Sonoma) drove around town for about 2hrs last night. When I got home I fell asleep and forgot about the seafoam treatment. Today I fired her up and all I can say is........... WOW! She's running smoother than ever before and it even started right up! Didnt try on my Rx7's yet, but the stuff works!
