Another Ford taurus fan install...
I have to admit this fan fit very nicely and is crazy powerful. I had out the old amp meter and the initial click on of the high speed drew 68.5 amps!!! Then had a steady 30 amp draw. I think the high setting is just to much for the FB alternator. I've got it hooked up on the low setting right now and all is well. Great highway and traffic light temps. We'll see how it works out this summer with the AC on. I think the 3gen 100amp alternator is in my near future.
Also what is everyone useing to seal around the schroud and the radiator. There is a very minimal amount of space but I'd like to fill it with some foam rubber or something similar.... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ectircfan1.jpg |
nice

Also you'll need an alt upgrade to handle this fan on high. I'm not sure we even need to use the high setting. Low still pushes alot or air. I'll post up some wiring diagrams and how I did the attach points later. |

I used a 30 amp relay and a switch. Problem is you'll need to use 2 30 amp relays or find a starter relay or something else that has enough amps (at least 50) for the fans high setting. I wish I would have just grabbed the relays on the taurus I'd reccomend doing that while your at the junkyard.

I tried this and I could not fit the fan the moter of the fan was hiting the crank pully the fan I have looks different from the one you used. I know the car was a taurus but I think it was a older one |

No the one he grabbed was out of a 3.0. You have to have the fan out of a 3.8. The 3.0 fan will not clear the front pully. I have one of each and just waiting to put mine in.

On a scale of easines how would you rate this mod? 10 being difficult, and 1 being esy. Removing the carb with teh ratsnest still on would be a 5-6 ish (It was the second thing I did to my car)
|
Chances are, if you can remove the rats nest you can pull this off.
|
Ok so then I can do this... how much power will this free up on a 100% stocker?
Thanks |
probably none....
|
Maybe a couple of horsepower, the electric fans do not cool as well as a clutch fan but they take a little drag off the engine.
|
I am really thinking about this mod. As I wanna hear more of my engine, but I feel with the stock clutch fan I hear more of that spinning up then I do the rotary.
Also there is a product out that can slowly build up power to the fan unstead off pulling it all at once. We did this on one of my buddies Isuzu. Worked Super good. I sure do hope I aint got to upgrade to the 3rd gen Alt I just sold mine, and I would be Pissed id I ended up needing it! |
my taurus fan does not slam on. It doesn't even seem to kill the volts, but i also only use low speed. high speed is wired to a switch in the car for track use. (helps cool down in between runs. i can leave it running with switch off)
|
how about the adjustable thermostat that VB sells.. you think that would work?
|
I have seen some people using Escort fans and since I and a Ford employee I can buy this pretty cheap....
Not to Hijack but does anyone know if the escort fan works as good as the taurus fan? Jay 1984 FB |
can you get either fan... i see that tauruses have 2 fans.. which one should i get?
|
Fiero fan is much easier to install and it will run with regular fog lights relay. :)
