"If you HAVE to go more than two turns out to get the engine to idle, you probably have another problem, such as a vacuum leak, or perhaps not enough idle speed."

I dont have to, it just runs better when I do!

"In our case(my case), since we don't run a choke, we set the idle rpm slightly higher to compensate for cold starts."

"We find the best adjustment is no more than two full turns out off the seat."

Iam not running a ford v8!

"In some cases, especially with big cams and low idle vacuum, you may find that you have to crank the idle speed way up, and the idle mixture screws don't seem to make a difference."

Not, my case! Idle mix makes a big difference .

"The problem here is that as you increase idle speed, more of the transfer slot becomes exposed, and the carb begins to meter through the primary circuit, causing a excessively rich idle mixture."

Again, not my case!

HOLY CRAP. i fucked with my car for a long time today. couldnt get it to fire up on it's own. so i pull started it. first it cranked up and idled at 3,000 (where i had it set so i could get out and check things ) then it died. so i upped the floats just a TAD and tried again. Boom, fires up on the next pull and held it's idle for a minute (still 3,000) THEN as i'm looking down the carb, gas starts to drip from the secondary venturi's (or whatever they're called). i backed the idle down but it didnt stop; just made my car run like pure crap. so i get in, and drive it back to the house like a few yards down and it stalls out right as i get in the driveway!!! AHHHHH! couldnt get it to crank back up. pulled the plugs, they were black. BRAND NEW NGK'S!!!! it wasn't nearly this bad when i first got it. i wish i had never messed with anything. all i had at first was a minor bog. DAMNIT!

Either the secondary floats are set too high, or your fuel pressure is too high and is overfilling the bowls (on the secondary side). Don't worry, once you get it figured out you will be glad you had this experience.

Did you get a fuel pressure gauge yet?

i'm getting really depressed about this. i'm getting on the verge of sending my nikki's to rx7carl for some reworking. what fuel regulator do you have? if you have a holley regulator, then which way turns the pressure down? turning the screw in or out?? LOL i'm waiting on my pressure gauge in the mail.

Hey, I think i know your problem, I had this before. GO get a float gasket set, and change your cloat gasket, the one right under neath the screw that you adjust your floats with, it definitley sounds like you are flooding it hard core, thats what I would start with, or at least check it out and see if it is leaking from there.

Way too much fuel pressure, if your floats are set right. You have to have a fuel pressure gauge! No way you can guess! The only possible things that would cause that problem is

A) Too high fuel pressure.

B) Floats not set correct, has to have slight dribble of fuel out of check hole on front side of fuel bowl.

C) Bad needle seat, meaning when the float rises to shut off fuel supply the needle and seat leak, not stopping the fuel and will fill up bowl and over flow into engine. Which if this carb only has 1000 miles on it, cant be this one.

Could be. What jets are you running right now? Take off the primary fuel bowl and check what numbers are on the jets. Also is there a power valve or has it been blocked off?

sounds like your accelerator pump has gone bad or is not hooked up or adjusted correctly. my dellorto did that (forgot to hook it up LOL) and my 1989 corolla did that (bad/clogged accellerator pump)

my accel pump is good. might be shooting too much gas though. i dunno. that shouldn't effect my starts though. i pump the gas once then try to crank. i dont keep pumping.

Alright! Got a question. Do you have vacuum or mechanical secondaries? If they are vacuum, remove the dashpot cover and look at the spring in it.

You will normally have that problem when you have converted to mechanical secondaries. You need a bigger ap shot to make up for the secondary throttle plates opening. You can get a bigger shot by changing the pump cam to a larger one, or puting the cam you have on now on the second setting (unless its there now). If you have the biggest cam and still aren't getting enough shot, then you might have to convert to the 50cc accelerator pump. There are kits all over the net.

Your a trip man!

Yea with those mech secondaries thats normal. Take watsons advice. Also they have bigger squiter nozzles availible. You need a big AP pump shot to mask the bog.
