And it was more like 105% of the performance; the 924 was very smog-hobbled.
Ahh, common ground.

You beat me to it. I also see some Ferrari Daytona in there. Here are some pics -- Datsun 240Z, Ferrari 275GTB, and Ferrari Daytona. Decide for yourself.

I also agree, BTW that auto designs tend to "borrow" from their predecessors. In some cases, however, the "borrow" turns into more of a "steal". I don't see much 924 in an FB, but I don't see anything but 924 in the FC.

No, I did not see much 924 in the FB, but there are a few better candidates. What do you think of this? (1967 TVR-rear and 1973 Monica-nose)

Interestingly enough, I was reading a book a few weeks ago, titled simply RX7. It was written about the developement of the FC. But it also had the developement of the RX7 originally. Mazda had originally proposed "Bug eyed" headlights like the old Sprite, but went to pop ups for aerodynamics. If my memory was better, I could tell you exactly what all was mentioned, but you should read the book yourselves. Should be at the library. It is extremely detailed was tons of photos, including mockups, concept drawings, interior mockups, etc. THe book was written by, I believe, the head designer of the RX7. I have to check it out of the library and read it, because I only had time to glance through it for an hour or so.

Also, the Pantera and quite a few other cars had very simular front end treatments as well as the long hood short rear design. . .

Later,
Bill
