MA Alignment Questions

Hello,

I found info in the Mazda repair manual and now I am more confused.
Do you set Camber and Caster the same on BOTH sides ?

I know this has been covered but I am having trouble doing the string / fishing line method for the toe-in.

As soon as I tie the string to the front toe hooks, it touches both leading and trailing edges of the front tires. I can adjust the tie rods all over the place and both leading and trailing edges always touch the string. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but what ??

Also would like to confirm that the little arrow on each side on the top of strut mount points inside toward the windshield and this gives me max camber and caster.

thanks

I don't use the tow hook sting method. I use 4 jack stands. I put string going front to back on them. I align the strings evenly to the center hub of the wheel the same distance out on each side to I know it's completely straight aligned with the car. Then I use a either a metal ruler or micrometer (depth part) to measure to the front and back lips of the wheels. I then do corrections to make sure I have the toe out I want. I'm running slight toe out since it's a track car. It kind of looks like how Smart Strings are setup, but I tie the strings on jack stands.

Always remember, caster first, then camber, then toe. Caster can induce camber so you don't want to adjust that after you adjust camber.

There is a little arrow on this originally pointing towards the front outside stut tower bolt. It should now point towards the front INSIDE to move the geometry. This slight forward angle of the strut will produce more of a negative camber in the outside wheel when the wheel is turned.

From my archived thread on front suspension replacement. There are some pictures there also.

Thanks very much. So just for some clarification on the strut tower (caster/camber) I have BOTH sides pointed inward toward the windshield.

I'm having some trouble finding your archieved thread. I'm still looking I'm sure its how I'm searching for it.
