Air box modification
I was just wondering if it would be possible to place my stock 12a, series 2 1982 air box over a weber 48 IDA? basically my question is... is it possible to weld up a custom plate that would fit the weber 48 IDa's trumpets onto my stock air box with out deforming the air box????
The reason i need to know is my stock carby is FUBAR and i've got a weber 48 ida but in australia a weber 48ida makes the car illegal so i need to cover it up with the stock air box to pass inspection.
any help would be greatly apreeciated.

it can be done. I think I've seen it in ausrotary.com wherein someone used a stock air cleaner to hide the IDA. In fact, he used the stock air cleaner for cold air intake. The other things you can do is to have use the phonoelic spacer and soewhat attach a few fake fittings for the stock rats nest.
Funny that I had so much ideas before due to smog bs. But I fade away from RX-7's since 75 and below are smog exempt in Cali.

Thats what I plan to do with the wide body project. I am running a IDF and will use a modified blue housing.
My plan is to cut the entire round section out from the middle leaving a 1/4" weld flange. Then make a sheet metal plate with a OD that matches the diameter with the IDF cut outs in the middle of it. This way I can bolt the part on the engine and clock the blue air cleaner with the snorkel pointed where I need it.
I will then use silicone connectors and aluminum mandrels to get the air from one of our rad/cold air panels. This puts the filter in front of the radiator rather than a round one in the blue housing. I did not think one would fit there but the aus guy proved it could be done. I will try to take pics when i do it.
