Ahh...She Hit Me

i don't have a question i just wanted to share my pain. i have been moving for the past week and haven't had time to pay attention to my 7's. so it's down to last day and all i have left is a couch and some tables. i bring the u-haul by and had to park it close to the 7. i look over and see some kind of fuild puddle under the front bumper. at that instant i know it's not mine because it's in front of the rad. i look a little more careful and see a fluid trail. my heart goes to my stomach as i pulll the car cover off. at first i don't see anything then i look around the the passenger side fender and it is caved in. i look at the bumper and it is pushed to the drivers side and the lights are broken. so much for a mint 85 gs. i will post pics in the morning.

the lady who hit me 5 foot nothing and didn't speak english, thank god she had insurance

i know some people could care less but i hadn't driven the thing in like two months. i had been saving to put in a t2.

The bright side is if you can do most of the work to fix it, you now have bonus cash for the TII swap.

i will see how much the insurance will give me. if it's enough for me to fix it and have some left over i'll do it. but if it's just enough to cover it i'll have a shop do it for me. it just pisses me off it's like two steps forward one step back for me. i will trudge ahead and continue to prep for the t2 motor.

at least the lady who hit it was kind enough to fess up (kinda hard not to when you can see the paint transfer matches up) and i'm certain that this will work itself out some how.

pic 2morrow morning.............ahhhhhhhh my gs!!!!!!!

Yeah at least she fessed up, I work on a military base in Japan and since most of the people are here for a short time only, they buy clunkers and they bash, wreck, ding doors etc. with total abandon, I just got in trouble last month when a lady put two cases of soda on the roof of my car so she could open her minivan door..... (right in front of me)

I hurled the sodas off, gave her a good solid round of *** chewing, and then got in trouble for throwing off her sodas.....

sorry for the rant, but get her fixed, and get her back on the road where she belongs.

cheers
kenn

be sure & let the insurance compant know that it was/is a "classic car".

If you don't like the offer tell them no, that is not enough. Additionally leaving the scene of an accident is a felony in most states. If she hit your car & left without reporting it, she is guilty, & this give you the upper hand.

Also when making a settelment, you now have a wrecked car. A used car that is wrecked & repaired car is worth less than one that hasn't been wrecked.

You are entitled to diminished value for the car.

If you need transportation while the car is being repaired, i.e. - a rental car, you are entitled to it as well.

If you have to miss work to deal with the issue, this is compensatible as well.

Jeff

Do some checking before you sign off on the letter that says I'm happy with what I got, & you do not have to sign the letter in order to receive your check.

Make sure the car is freaking spotless. Polish what good paint is left, vacuum out the inside, make it smell like freaking pine trees, whatever. When my 85' GS was run into be a deer and yes the deer hit me, not the other way around. It left my door so mis-shapened it look like a bangle-bmw. The front fender had a dent and a crease. But with prep and paint and parts, it came to like 1,600. Which technically should have caused the car to be considered junk. I think its insured to only 2,200-2,500.

But the adjuster was like, "This car is clean as all hell". So Progressive flipped the bill, and from what the body shop told me progressive usually screws over people. So I pocketed the money, bought a used door and fender that matched. And put the money to a complete re-spray.

Just my story. Think its worth it though, to make your car as showroom like it can be with a wrecked front end.

but he goes from having a "mint" car with nothing wrong with the body to having to fix it. Even with a new fender he has to paint that and the paint wont match good with the other paint so it would be best to do a good repaint to get it back to where it already was before the dumbass hit the car. He has every right to bitch and moan about it... not unless you want to go over and do all of the work and go threw all of the insurance/body shop hassels for him that he wouldn't have to have gone threw if it wasn't for the lady.

If HE did this to his car your post would be valid. Considering your post isn't valid IMO

ya...hes complaining because as mention he now has to fix his previously mint condition car...it would be like having an original 67 shelby and having someone dent the side in...value drops...damn that would make me pissed if someone ran into my car that looks just as good as the day it rolled off the assembly line!!

all my car needed before was some driver's side fender work and it wasnt a dent it was like a deep side swipe. so yes in my world it was mint, it had no body problems, no rust nothing.

you can't see it very well in the pics but the bumper has been pushed to the driver's side and it has a rip in it. i live in so cal where the junkyards are full of 7's but it is near impossable to track a mint white bumper like mine was. all this wouldn't have pissed me off so much except i haven't driven in in a months and i was about to move it. and yes the paper work will be a bitch because i am deploying every other month to prep for iraq. so i have alot on my plate and this only complicates things.

p.s. did i mention my first white 85' gs was wrecked by a drunk driver (red 5.0 mustang) while i was sleeping at home? i have never hit anyone, but they like to hit me when i'm not even in the car.....

first and foremost...rotor vs piston? i dont remember asking for your opinion....and i really dont care what you have to say about what i posted cause "IMO" as you say (lazy *** doesent want to type) why should i let someones words bother me....who cares anyway

like i said yeah it sucks *** that this happend but you know what they say **** happends for a reason and maybe it happend because you havent messed with your cars in awile and now you have a reason too....

diaz, i dident mean to offend you i was just putting it in a matter that it wasent a big deal, look at it this way, be glad that that was the extent of the damage....it could have been worse your whole side could have been caved in and puts the car in total zone then what? (that would suck by the way) so i mean i know that you have the time and resources so what are you waiting for? get out there and make it happen....have a positive mood about it, you can sit there and be bitchy or you can say f it and fix it....thats how i would see it....

well i called both the insurance companies today and told my sob story to both of them. one of the was an ex 7 owner and he said he felt my pain and would do his best to get the 7 back in shape. he knew my lug pattern was crazy and asked if i had the stocks on it. i told him no they were customs, he said if there was a nick that couldn't be buffed out i could get new ones. i doubt that would happen but i would like some meshies.............keep you posted.

i knew this would happen. i told the progressive lady when she came out to look at my car today that i want to keep it because it was a classic and i was in the process of restoring it. she told me that she thought 1500 was fair and i thought that was okay until she said i had to give up my car because it was "totaled". i looked at her and this was how it went:
me: totaled it's the fender and the bumper!!!
her: well the cost or repairs might be more than the value of the car.
me: are you kidding me?! i didn't back into anyone! i wasn't even in the car when it got hit!
her: well there's really nothing more that i can do for you.
(this is where it got kinda out of control)
me: so you mean to tell me i'm supposed to get fucked and just be okay with that.
her: i can see that you are a little upset....
me: me upset!? no i'm ****** pissed that i provide a service by going overseas and assisting in killing these so called "terrorists" and you're trying to give me the shaft. i wouldn't try to short change you, i don't want a crazy amount of money i just want enought to fix my car.
her:umm......i'll go back to the office and see what i can do.
end of conversation.

i think i scared her and fucked myself at the same time.

i guess i have a few options left.
1. try to fix the 7 with what money they would give without taking it
2. take the money they will give and then try to buy back the 7 and fix it
3. take the money they give and rebuild the t2 i have laying around and drive that sencond gen

keep in mind the t2 i have laying around was only so i could take the engine out rebuild it and put it in the first gen. i really don't like the second gen at all, but the body is straight. any words of wisdom or kindness would be great.
