aftermarket cd player hookup ??

Well I got me a cd player to put in my 84' GSL. The car had no stereo in it when I bought it. The wires were cut. I can figure out which wires go to the stock speakers, ground, but which wire do I hook up the acc. wire from the deck? Anybody ever hookup the stock clarion amps to a aftermarket player?

the stock clarion amps sucks... there 25 watts each which is nothing at all for todays standards... the cd player will put out more... you hook the acc wire up to something that is activated by the igniton... Like your lights or something

I upgraded mine over xmas. Its not too hard.

I advise against reusing the stock amps. They have a propreitary connector that is a pain to hook into (there is a page with wiring diagrams, I'll try to find it for ya). The stock amps are rated at somewhere around 25 watts. Most new head units put out that much per channel.

As for power there will be a T shaped connector back there. One prong is switched power, the other controls the power antenna. Turn your car to 'run' and check the voltage. For constant power there should be a single wire leading to a single prong connector.

If you can spare $30, go to crutchfield and order thier wiring harness/intallation kit. It's a lot easier using that and thier supplied (VERY ACCURATE) documentation than tracing wires.

Feel free to hit me up online if you need help. I've got all my docs handy and I'd be glad to share. AIM: Bartels83 or Yahoo: fiveonethree

I guess I will ditch the stock amps, aren't they under one of the seats?

actually i just did mine last week or so. found it easier and more efficient for my standards to just run new better wire to the speakers. made me feel better knowing that i didn't have 22g wires for sound. for the posative wires i can't remember wich ones but all you need to do is find yourself power with a test light. look for blue wires. they usually have power. i think blue and black stripe was the ignition on and blue and red was straight power. mine was really cut also. just test them. pretty easy.

My lighter in my '82 was hot with ignition off (no keys). Someone pro-installed an aftermarket ****-style tape deck, and tapped off of that wire for the battery/memory lead.
