Unhappy Added passenger power fade

I have a 79 Rx7 that runs like a bat of hell when its just me driving, however, i have discovered that when i have a passenger, it slows down incredibly. Is this a result of the fuel pump or carb? let me know what yall think.

How much does the passenger weigh?

Sometimes it amazes me how much a couple hundred pounds can affect a ~110 HP car.

I agree.... the HP to weight factor (if there is such a thing) is what gives the FB it's advantage. Added weight is very noticeable - I think that's why a lot of owners are always trying to trim back as much weight as possible. I've heard people talking 5 lbs at a time to get the weight down (jack, spare tire, sound deading, rear deck, etc.). Even my girl friend sitting beside me seems to slows me down. - Please... no wise cracks

I agree, i have noticed that anyone over 150 that rides with me slows me down. The engine is a 12a, I recently ordered that 1st gen intake and K&N from rx-7.com and it really helped, I have headers coming from mazdatrix, so we will see if i can show my passengers how fast Rx7s really are.

Yeah, me too. I've probably taken about 150 lbs of junk off my car, but when someone over 150 climbs in, forget it!
I tell people, Sure...The extra wieght is taking up some power...no arguement. But it's also helping with traction, so this (of course) is why the wheels won't break free shifting into 3rd!
Of course then they gotta start with that "Get a V8..." ****!

I never thought of that when I was showing two of my firends (both in the car at the same time as me) that I could break the tires loose in third. I couldn't, but it was probably because of my 165 lb friend sitting right over the back wheels. No problem when it's only one person in the passenger seat though..

I tell ya what, a friend of mine weighs 280lbs, and when we go for a ride, which isn't very far, he slows the car down unbelievablely as well!!! Were as another friend who weighs under 200lbs does too, but much less.

200-300lbs is a lot of extra interia to overcome. Try pushing your car with and without the engine&tranny in it, YOU'll BE very surpised!!!

b/c of the small displacement of rotaries (12A, 13B), added weight can slow the car down dramatically. You won't believe how much faster the car is by removing the A/C, moonroof, lighter wheels and tires, etc.

3rd, I wish.

Also...
I can get a slide going in 2nd if it's raining. If it's dry and I drop the clutch in wrong, I get an occasional chirp. I have an 85 se with intake, performance cat exhaust. My engine is in superb condition.

I should ALSO add that I have 15"x7" hockenheim r (15lb version)rims with Toyo 195/50/15r tires so it is possible that I loose the ability there slightly. My stock tires on the 14" se rim never spun though it's hard to recall since it was several years ago and only for a couple of months.

not like crazy insane burnout in third gear all the way down the road, just like a 1-3 foot long patch laid every shift. I also have an open diff, so it only has to spin one tire Seond on the other hand; I can spin the tires non-stop from a burn-out in first all the way through into second, but it looks kinda funny 'cause only one wheel smokes... Going around corners in second and then hammering on it so the back end slides right out is kinda fun, just gotta remember not to gun it too hard when it's wet, otherwise I end up right around sdrawkcab...
