CA Accessing Flasher CPU/Horn Relay/Lamp Check Relay unit?

I'm asking this question as I don't have my car handy (at the paint shop) and I'm trying to figure out how much hassle I'm in for to change out the CPU...

Is the flasher CPU/Horn relay/etc. unit accessible *without* removing the dash?

From the electrical diagrams I can't tell what side of the firewall it's on; can I get at it by opening the hood, or do I need to get at it from the inside of the vehicle?

Please don't tell me I need to remove the dash to swap it out.... :-(

I see in your profile you have an 85, so I can't say 100%, but on 83's it is very easy to access as long as you don't mind a little yoga in the floor pan of your car lol. No need to remove the dash on the 83, can't imagine the 84/85's are that much different....

Yup, sorry it's an '85...

That's a bit of a relief!

It's basically to the left of the clutch pedal when looking at the dash. It's most likely easiest to take the seat out as then you have a fairly comfy spot to lie on your back while looking up into the dash from there it wil be at your right shoulder.

The local Pick 'n Pulls here in CA have FBs showing up every month or so.

And I go see them whenever they show up in the online inventories...

Most have been driven into the ground and ruined, but there's usually something salvageable, even if it's just some interior pieces.

But I went to see a "new" one last week and some douchebag had decided to *smash every piece of glass* except for the passenger window--apparently "just because."
